New Model 1895 Cowboy 45/70

I finily got to the range the other day with my new cowboy 45/70. I was really impressed. It shot quite well with Remington 405 gr SP. But I really dislike those buckhorn sights. Has anyone mounted a Tang, a ladder, or a peep sight on one of these? Has it made any difference in your accuracy. My only other complaint was that the butt really dig into your shoulder.
Do any of you know about extended or custom made butts for these?
thanks a lot ya'll

Either a tang- or receiver-mounted peep sight will enhance your accuracy. The peep sight is inherently better than any open sight, and the longer sight radius will also help.

If you're not concerned about "originality", you can merely emplace a Pachmyr-style buttpad--but be careful about the angle.

The Marlin Guide guns are in the $400.00 range here in Oregon. The cheapest I found here was $450.00
The Cowboy is more expensive, about $100.00 more and a bit harder to find. It also has a 26 inch barrel, and holds 9 rounds in the tube.
A lot of people I talked to didn't like the G, because of the porting. I read here that someone got some lead in the face. Asked at the club and all of them said the same thing.I do like that model 1895 though, but you only got 4 rounds in the tube.
catch ya later

I put a Pachmayr (sp?) Dedelerator on my 1895 .45-70. Makes it a real pleasure to shoot. You're right about the sights.
