Are the pictures of your 627, or of what you would like?
From the written description, though, it sounds like you have a Lew Horton 627-3 "Ultimate Defense". If you'd really rather have a V-Comp, you'd probably be better off finding a V-Comp owner and trading.
May I suggest before you "ruin" a limited run and highly sought after revolver, you consider selling it and buying a comped 627.
The 3" 627-3 is hard to find and turning it into a 5" comped kills any value. Should you choose to sell, I suspect you could move it on the Smith & Wesson forum in a matter of minutes.
I have 5" comped and non-comped 627's. They are fun to shoot and make great steel match guns. Both mine and my wife's have optics mounted and are set up just for steel. They are fun.
