Well, I went and bought my first pistol today. I was snooping around my local pawn shops and found this real nice Springfield Armory 1911-A1. It has a trigger job and a custom beaver tail, and man, I love it! She shoots pretty good too, even in my novice hands. Oh, I picked it up for $650...not the deal of the century, but I think I did alright.

You have a very special finish on that 1911.

Looks great.

I'd just be really careful what I did with it,especially around that mirror finish at the muzzle end of the gun.

I must admit,I havent seen that bead blast-mirror finish done that well in a long time.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I really didn't think that a "shiny" gun would appeal to me, but when I saw this one, I thought: "Wow, I like that". I especially liked the way the blasted and mirror contrasted each other with the rich wood handles. Granted, it's nothing terribly fancy, but it works for me.

Nice, I might be wrong, but that looks like a GI model that has had some serious work done to it. It looks like whoever did it did a great job. Very nice looking gun. Congrats on your find.

What? No ever present "Idiot Mark"? :D

gedenke, take care when reassembling that in an attempt to keep it "arc'd scratch" (aka idiot mark) free when replacing slide release latch. It's almost too pretty... if that's possible. Nice find, good deal and all that, but... how is it at the range? (Range report, range report)

Unless that's just an illusion with the pic, it looks to me like the idiot mark is already there. As long as the frame is stainless, I think it can still be buffed out.

You have better eyes than I do. I see no idiot mark on there at all.

To the OP, it is easy to scratch the frame and/or slide when sticking that slide stop back in after cleaning. Don't put it in in an arc fashion - just straight in, and don't clean your gun if you've been drinking. ;) That's how it happens.

with the oversized ejection port I would say Mil.spec so not a bad price IMHO ops its got the GI front sight, so she has had a little work done on it. dang now I don't know what it is. I'm sure a SA expert will chime in.

I believe it's a Mil-Spec that's been modified. The work was done by a local gunsmith here in S. Oregon, (Ed?) Boening, I think. As for the "idiot scrtatch", it looks like there is a very tiny scuff below the slide release. :( But, it's so minute that I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. Yes, this gun is "purdy", but it will get shot and it will get used. I'll do my best to keep her from getting beat up, but she's no safe queen if you know what I mean!;)

Oh, and as for the range report, let me first say that I'm no pro. I've shot maybe 8-10 handguns over the last 20 years, with the most being a crappy M9 in the Corps. (I could only qual sharpshooter) That being said, I was able to put 15 rounds inside of 6" at about 15yds with a weaver stance. That was with Am. Eagle FMJs. Not great, and I'm sure some of you could do alot better. I think this is the smoothest pistol I've shot to date, I'm very happy with it. Definitely shoots way better than my Dad's Ruger .45(P...?).
