New Marlin 1895 Lever Guns

I just purchased a new Marlin 1895 Lever gun and having some troubles finding a couple of things for it.

1. I would like to find a leather buttstock ammo carrier but it needs to be left handed and heck if I can find one.

2. Would like to change the sight to some sort of peep site. Having trouble finding out what is is not compatible.

This is my first lever gun so don't want to buy something that wont work.

Any suggestions?

I would start off with internet search engines.

"Marlin 1895 peep sights"

"leather buttstock ammo carrier left hand"

You'll find the peep sight easiest, the ammo carrier may have to be custom ordered - but then again, maybe not.

Good luck with your search, and enjoy your new 1895, a truly great firearm.

Besides the Skinner sights, Marble's makes a rear sight that is similar to a rear peep, and it uses the rear dovetail on the barrel:

I have no experience with the Marble's sight, but I have used a Williams peep sight that mounts on the receiver scope mounting holes on the Marlin:

Lyman also makes their classic receiver peep sight, with the model 66LA that fits the Marlin:

With the Skinner, Williams and Lyman sights you may have to change the front sight blade to a taller one, so that you don't run out of down adjustment on the rear sight. If you get the Skinner, Lyman or Williams peep sights, there is a neat adjustable iris available from Merit:

As for leather, I suggest that you contact a custom leather maker that has a right hand cartridge carrier and ask if they can craft a left hand version for you.

I haven't tried the skinner sights but I have several rifles with either Lyman or Williams receiver sights. My 1895 Guide Gun is a newer NY rifle and has holes tapped in the top rear of the receiver where my older 444P and 336s are tapped on the left rear side of the receiver wall. If you end up trying a Williams just be sure that you get the right type (old or new) to mount on your rifle. Whichever brand you decide on, receiver (peep) sights are a big improvement over barrel mounted open sights.

Check out his site, he is most of the time 4-5-6 months back loged. He makes Awsome stuff.
I tryed to att. Pic.I have a couple of his things.

To properly work a "ghost ring " peep sight should have about a 1/8" hole and be close to the eye. Front sight should be square and about 1/8" wide.
Ghost ring sights are both fast and accurate !!:D
