New M1A has FTE!

FINALLY brought the M1A scout i picked up a few weeks ago for a range session. Prior to, i had swabbed out the bore, and dry patched it, and left a thin layer of CLP in the bore. bolt face was swabbed, ramp was wiped down.
Fired approx. 60 rounds Portuguese .308, and had 4 failures to extract. Expended round was fully seated in the chamber, and a new round was pushed against the expended case, bolt tensioning the live round in place. I removed the mag, and closed the bolt. The shell then extracted normally.

I figure i have some options at this point: disassemble the bolt, making sure there is not a lot of grease in the extractor; polish the extractor; or mail to SA for reworking. What a pain.
Any suggestions?

Call S/A first. You may have missed something.

Mine shot straight out of the box with South African ammo. No problems. My first thought that it was dirty but that doesn`t seem to be the case here.

Try some factory .308 first. You can probably get away with something like Remington Core-lokt...something US factory-made, but cheap. Maybe the Mil-surp 7.62 brass wasn't as "fresh" as it could be?

Was your chamber clean and dry? Happened to me once.

Danger, danger, my hooks are flailing wildly. Someone admitted to using Porto ammo. Any inverted primers? Geez.

Give the Porto stuff to someone you dislike and get some of that Azanian stuff or the Brit ammo (I think both are still floating around).

If getting rid of the junky ammo doesn't do it, time to write SA.

I had several FTEs with my M1A using milsurp ammo...not a chronic problem, just once every couple hundred rounds or so.

Mom's been over the house this week, just dropped her off at the airport this morning. Now I'll have a chance to break it down, clean it, and get ready for a break in session. I know i shouldn't be too antsy, as most of the new guns i have owned needed several hundred rounds for 'self-tuning.' I'll try that first. Thanks for the replies, panic mode OFF.
