new Lee melter

I just got my new 20# bottom spout melter from Widener's yesterday.
Of course, I had to try it out, so I heated it up last night, just to see how it's going to work.
I'm favorably impressed, so far. The spout does try to drip, but if you rotate the plunger, and make sure to "close" it with a little force at the end of your pour, it seems to work just fine.
I cast about 50 of my new (to me) .357 swc boolit. It made really nice, shiny boolits, with only one "cool" cast at the start. I preheated the mold on a hotplate, and was casting at right at 700 deg.

and the top edge of the pot turned such a NICE shade of purple/blue...
aesthetics are everything :D

It looks like the almost 40yr old Lyman 61 will have some help now.

Good going hornetguy!!!!

When ya run it low empty it & lap the valve in with some lappin compound & the drip will go away & ya know to use clean alloy.

As far as I can tell the 20# pot is the best melter for the $$$$

I agree... especially at 45 dollars, plus about 5 bucks shipping.

Not bad at all... and it's large enough diameter to use a ladle out of, if I want.

life is good. :)

oh... and the lapping idea is a good one. Custom fit is always best..

Yup, it's a great melting pot, I've had mine about 3 years now, BUT keep a flat blade screwdriver handy, when it starts to drip, rotate the valve rod a little, and problem solved. I'm sure a "perfect" bottom pour melting pot would NOT cost what this one does!!!!
