New Kel-Tec P-11 Range Report

I had a few spare minutes so I went I took my brand new P-11 to an Outdoor range.

I first shot 11 Winchester 115gr JHP, then 50 125gr. Magtech FMJ. All 61 rounds loaded, fired, and ejected with out a hitch.

The guns sights are about 3 inches low and 3 inches to the right at 10 yards. The groups where decent for the small barrel, and long trigger pull, about 4 inches.

The gun does spit some stuff at you 1 out 10 times with the Magtech ammo. I had one caseing bounce lightly off my head, and maybe 4 times felt material hit my face, all from the cheaper Magtech ammo. The Winchester ammo seemed to be a lot cleaner too. The Magtech really dirtied the gun up.

You're getting exactly the groups I got out of P-11 until I got accustomed to it.

With concentration and patience and a trigger shoe and the little add on finger groove for the bottom of the mag you can get to the point where it shoots more accurately, but due to it's weight and long pull it tends to shoot low and off to one side.
I'm still working on the low now and then, but I've cured myself of the off to one side groups.

It's really a great small 9mm pistol. I carry mine almost daily.

BTW, I'm not criticizing your shooting, I've seen lots of discussion on this and experienced it too.

I can pick up my Springfield and just group it to aiming point, but the P-11 requires patience to get used to....

Cheers

I recently posted a range report of my new P-11. I was shooting low and to the left, but after about 100 rounds, I got more used to the trigger and soon the shots were almost right on target. I did some dry fire practice when I got home and, sure enough, I was slightly flinching to the left.
I used to shoot a lot of DAO, but I've gotten spoiled by the crisp, light, single action trigger on my P7. The P-11 does have a long pull.

I keep hearing so many good reports on the P11. I also like the size....

Anybody know where I can find one near Panama City, FL?

Chief Jones,

The factory's in Cocoa, FL, if that helps.

They should be available almost anywhere around there.

Mr. Wingshooter,

You might also want to try a White trigger overtravel stop. It's a quick DIY job. Check out http://www.KTOG.org for how to do it.

Shooting low and right seems to be a tell-tale problem of not being used to the long DAO trigger. Dry fire with a dime on the front of the slide. Keep it up until it stays on every time you pull the trigger. Then do it some more.... :D
