New Kahr CT380 range time

So I recently purchased a new Kahr CT380 which I intend to CCW 1/2 the time along side my current piece. Took it to the Range and it shot very well. Quite accurate for the type of firearm that it is. I know it takes Kahr's 200rds for their break-in period, but the gun did something that was surprising a bit. First off the gun failed to stay open on the last round on 3 of the 10 magazines I shot. No biggie, break in period, springs are really stiff in this gun. BUT, it failed to go into battery 3x as well. Once with using the slide release lever, and 2 by manually racking the slide. Cartridge went in 1/2 way and that was it. I had to eject it and start over. With as tight a springs that come with the gun, I would have thought if anything this would not happen. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this would be? All were 73gr Jacketed. No hollowpoints.

All part of the break in process and from what you describe these seem to be magazine issues, particularly the lock back. Also remember, Kahr themselves tells you not to rack the slide to chamber a round. I have a CM9 and it has worked flawlessly chambering with the slide release or by racking the slide but if I did have the same issues as you I wouldn't be alarmed by it. I did have an issue with my magazine release with a loaded magazine, but as I break it in (still only 180 rounds through mine) the release has smoothed up nicely. You only have, what, 70 rounds or so through it? Break it in and you will most likely see a noticeable difference.

Also make sure you take it apart and clean it if you didn't before your range trip.

My CW380 is a little finicky with some brands of ammo, (Geco and Fiocchi) so far,
It has trouble chambering the rounds that my sons LCP has no problem with.

I'm guessing that it's chamber is a little tighter, you just need to find out what brands of ammo it likes and feeds well.

It's not the chamber being tighter.

The problem is some of these pistols have steep feeding angles for a short and stubby cartridge like the 380acp. To make matters worse, some ammo out there like Fiocchi have a sharp mouth on the casing that can get caught on top of the chamber upon feeding, because the chambers are not chamfered at all. Odd bullet shapes can add to the problem as well.

The problem with mine is not the feed ramp.

The cartridge has no problem starting into the chamber but stops just short of locking into battery with the 2 mentioned brands of ammo.

Everything else I've tried has worked just fine.

My PM9 had issues that never resolved to the point I could trust my life with it, but it sure was a pleasure to pack. I'd guess the 380 would be great to carry even more. Hope your issues resolve themselves.

Thank you, I'll get back out again and send another 50-100rds threw it. The gun looks and feels great I hope it resolves itself after this break in period.

Yep, Kahr recommends using the slide release always. I do (on all pistols, starting long before I bought my first Kahr ten years ago) and it works perfectly on all of them.
Mine: PM9, P45, PM45, CW380
