new job and dt's

I started a new job about three weeks ago...got almost a 25% pay increase...my boss is always smiling and VERY cool (unlike my last one who yelled all the time)...my co-workers are cool (one guy is a firearms instructor and a bunch of them are shooters)...the best benefits I've ever had at any job EVER...large company, fairly stable (I almost got laid off twice in six months, so with a kid to support, this is an issue)..."flex time" (unlike my last job in which I was expected to do several overnight stays in Denver, but had to clock in and out when we were home because we took "long lunches").....etc.
BUT........
They have a web surfing nanny thing that blocks "any site that promotes weapons"
*sniff* *sniff* I didn't realize how much I missed TFL till I started reading posts tonight and whenever I see a familiar username, it makes me sad! :(
*sniff* *tremble* (withdrawals)
Well, I s'pose if the new job were perfect, I'd have to wonder if I had died and how the heck did I get to the "Good Place????" ;)
sigh.......
:(

Know how you feel -- we just received our new company e-mail and Internet workplace policy today.

• It forbids e-mail or net use for 'anything other than work-related' matters
• All outward and inward mail can and will be checked by IT staff
• No e-mail will be considered confidential
• All information sent or received over the company's network becomes the exclusive proerty of the company.
• Non-compliance may 'result in disciplinary proceedings leading to dismissal'.

Looks like I'll have to be a bit more circumspect from now on.

Cindy, congrats on the job. Hope it works well for you.
I've been without my computer at home for two weeks now, so can only get on TFL at work. It's where I get my news and links to news worth reading! Being without really sucks.

Cindy, I'd wait a while, until I was accepted as "part of the team" before making waves. At some point thereafter I would ask why there was concern about "weapons"; why would folks worry about where adults go on the Web.

The issue is wasted work-time--and it IS a nation-wide problem. So long as surfing is done during breaks/lunch, I fail to understand the problem.

Regards, Art

Thanks, guys, I miss you all, too. :( :(

quote:
All outward and inward mail can and will be checked by IT staff[/quote] :eek:WOW! That's strict!!!!
I know that technically, they have the right to do that, but geeeez!
That's why I won't raise the issue, because, even if it's done on breaks, it's still company resources/bandwidth, so they could really restrict it as much as Bruce's company does. I'd hate to bring it up and cause everyone to lose the privilege of using the internet period. That's where I get my news, too!
Oh, well, guess I'll just have to deal....at least I can pay my phone bill now, so I can still read TFL at home! :)
I'll be around, just not quite as much. See ya! :)

Sorry to hear your place is so anti-Second Amendment. From a strict managerial perspective, web-surfing irrelevant sites (gosh that's fun) reduces productivity. OK, I'll shut up.
