I had heard all the nightmares about purchasing a firearm in NJ. I had friends tell me that it's a waste of time, that it takes like 5-6 months and that's if they even approve you. I wasn't even going to apply, when a co-worker gave me the correct information. Go to your local police station, ask for a firearms permit application. You will have to pay $5 for the application and $2 for every handgun permit. You also have to pay for finger printing, between ($10-$70). I applied on 12-15-11 and picked up my FID card and my handgun permit on 01-13-12. I live in Waretown, Ocean county. Don't get discouraged by all the negative talk. It really wasn't bad at all.

I heard if you wanted a handgun in New Jersey, it was easier to buy it on the streets.

One of the biggest complaints about NJ is with carry permits, more specifically their scarcity.

That still sounds like a huge pain in the ass.. I walk in with my CPL and walk out with a gun.

Me too.

It took me 2 months to get a CCW but the local authority relented without a fight (I am a well known jerk around town and they knew I would sue if they didn't give it to me without a reason for cause).

Now I walk into a store with my CCW and walk out with anything I care to pay for. No registration, no state record of purchase.
