OK, now lots of people have been posting fantasy rifles here lately and I just happened to come up with one. The only problem is, I think it would fall under Class III by design. :( Well here it is...

Picture a break open 22 Rimfire rifle (22LR or 22WMR, it doesn't matter). What makes this rifle special are the four chambers connected to the four barrels that are joined in parallel. Breaking open the action would cock all four hammerless strikers. All cartridges would fire with a single trigger pull. Although it wouldn't have the spread of a shotgun, it would have multiple projectiles, scoring multiple hits. These four rifled barrels would have a greater effective range over buckshot. As if 22LR isn't wicked enough, a 22WMR version could really reach out and touch someone.

Well what do you think? The only problem I can see is that I think a single triggerpull firing more than one cartridge is considered full auto. I hope I am wrong. Ideas?

Not worth considering

I am sure this gun was made in the black powder days and dropped.

For self defense a good 12 gage shotgun with a "combat" style stock would be worth it's weight in GOLD.

I think it would be a "machinegun", but legal questions aside, you would spend a month or so on each gun getting the bullet strikes anywhere near one another. Unless you plan to use it only when attacked by a mob coming down a big staircase. A shotgun would be better.

I ran into a guy last year at Knob Creek who was selling 9-shot .22 shell holders that fit into a blooper tube. I think that they fired all 9 at once.

What would be the purpose of this rifle?

Why in .22? For recoil control?

I think that an accurate shot with an .308 would do more damage and be more controllable than a 4x.22. -A shotgun would also deliver more pellets at one time.

You can fire two shotgun barrels at the same time and not be "going full-auto" right? I've even seen pictures of four barreled shotguns, although I don't know if the idea was to fire them all at once.
Would you be shooting full-auto if you held four rifles and depressed the triggers all at once?

I think it would be a cool gun. It might take the effectiveness of a .22LR from 50yrds to 100yards for squirrels and such as the extra bullets would compensate for the cruddy scatter at that range.

I know you could use a shotgun or a larger caliber rifle for more damage, but they would also make more noise than four simutaneously fired sunsonic 22LR's. ;)
