Well, my bedside rifle is a Colt 6920. My fiance was over and had the typical EBR intimidation question: "Why do you need THAT rifle?" No, she's not going to make me get rid of it, so don't expect to get the desperate deal. She comes from a somewhat hoplophobic family, and I think that echoes still through her mind. She is a shooter (she loved my SIG P229, so I helped her buy a German P228 ) and even wants to get her CCW.
So, I put the Colt in the safe, and pulled out my 43 year old, bought by my grandpa new Marlin 336CS .35 Rem. I figure that's less intimidating to her, and figured that I'd pull the Colt back out down the road.
Now, however, the ole Marlin seems to be comforting. The forend and grip are dark with many years of skin oil, the bluing is worn off in a couple places, yes, there are a couple patches where it rusted and was meticulously cleaned (hunting in Arkansas, and especially Florida will do that). Even as an old 11B, somehow the 336 just seems right. I think I'll keep it out as my "go to" rifle.
Anyone else out there with a lever action as their primary home defence rifle?
