New home defence rifle.

Well, my bedside rifle is a Colt 6920. My fiance was over and had the typical EBR intimidation question: "Why do you need THAT rifle?" No, she's not going to make me get rid of it, so don't expect to get the desperate deal. She comes from a somewhat hoplophobic family, and I think that echoes still through her mind. She is a shooter (she loved my SIG P229, so I helped her buy a German P228 :D ) and even wants to get her CCW.

So, I put the Colt in the safe, and pulled out my 43 year old, bought by my grandpa new Marlin 336CS .35 Rem. I figure that's less intimidating to her, and figured that I'd pull the Colt back out down the road.

Now, however, the ole Marlin seems to be comforting. The forend and grip are dark with many years of skin oil, the bluing is worn off in a couple places, yes, there are a couple patches where it rusted and was meticulously cleaned (hunting in Arkansas, and especially Florida will do that). Even as an old 11B, somehow the 336 just seems right. I think I'll keep it out as my "go to" rifle.

Anyone else out there with a lever action as their primary home defence rifle?

My 336 in 30-30 was my go to rifle.

But with my new Mossberg 500, he has been sidlined but he is still loved very much.

I suppose you could say that lever guns were the first tactical rifles... I would not feel the slightest bit under-gunned if your .336 was sitting next to my nightstand.

Cheers,

Creeper, I like that.

Kind of an "old school" assault rifle.

Many an early morning in the deer woods I've rolled over and grabbed the ole girl at 4 in the morning. I've been sleeping next to that rifle on and off since I was 9 or so. Now that I think about it, I don't want my either my new (soon to be) wife or the rifle to get jealous.

I think I'll go wipe the rifle down and make sure she knows the new girl won't be replacing her. Uh, oh, I'm becoming one of you crazy gun nut guys, aren't I.

My levers are my first line... .44 first, 10+1 rounds of 240gr should give me time to access the problem.
Then the .30/30 can give me a little range and finally the .357 gives me urban mobility.

Now this is for my situation your mileage may and will very... :D

Lateck,

If you want a non-intimidating rifle in 35 Rem then get a Rem 14 or 141 .People will think it's a toy gun !! :D

One of the best purchases I have made on a gun is a Marlin 30AW (30-30)LNIB from a pawn shop years ago for $175.00. Even came with a camo sling. If it had been fired it was only a few rounds. While it is third behind my G17 and 1201FP for home defense, it stays loaded and ready in the safe if needed.
