New HK45 Trigger Problem

Hello, I've just purchased an HK45, the DA/SA variant, and I shot it for the first time yesterday, putting around 120 rounds through it. While shooting it, the trigger failed to reset twice- it got stuck in a pulled-back position, and had to be pushed forward manually before it could be fired again.

Today, while dry-firing it, I noticed I could replicate the issue reliably by doing the following:
1. Dry fire, and don't release the trigger, keeping it held all the way back
2. Pull the slide to reset the hammer back
3. Release the trigger slowly. Right before the trigger resets, I can feel a noticeable and audible click. From there I pull the trigger slightly back again, and it will get stuck in that position.

I've also gotten the trigger stuck a couple times while dry-firing even without step 3. I cleaned the gun, and applied oil to any part of the trigger I can see. Has anyone experienced this problem, and manage to get it resolved? Is this something that will likely correct itself after shooting it some more, or should I call up H&K and see about getting it repaired?

Sounds like an out of spec trigger bar, which is somewhat a known issue with that series. You should contact HK CS and have them take care of it.

I also have a DA/SA HK45 and i agree about contacting HK CS about this problem. But I would also inquire about doing a LEM trigger conversion if you end up sending this back to HK for service. I think the LEM is a much better trigger on the HK45 than the DA/SA.

I'd find a LEM pistol to try before doing that OP. Some really like the LEM. Others don't. I'm in the second camp. You can always order the parts to convert it yourself fairly easily at a later date, and that way you could go back and forth if you wanted.

Thanks for the advice. I'll be giving HK a call later this week. Time to find out if their CS is as good as I've often read.

Other than this issue I really like the gun. I've shot their LEM trigger before on other models, and right now I'd prefer to stick with the DA/SA.

Excellent advice.

I just bought a P30SK LEM and really like shooting it and the advantages of LEM to me for CCW. However I also have a HK45 DA/SA and P30LS DA/SA. I have no plans to change them. While to me LEM has advantages for some situations, I certainly do not consider LEM to be any better than DA/SA.

So far I have been impressed with HK customer service. I have never needed warranty service on any of my HKs but I emailed them last week with a question. They responded within 12 hours. :) On the other hand I emailed CZ USA with a question about parts two weeks ago and never heard back from them.

While I get your point, it's been my experience that email for certain companies is a black void. If you can calling almost always seems preferable.

TunnelRat is correct. If you can get someone on the phone, generally things happen faster, and better. Personal experience shows me HK and Ruger have outstanding service. My problem with phones is my poor hearing (78 years and a life time of aircraft, motorcycles, open cars, etc.); and I hate "telephone tag".

I also agree about holding off on a trigger change. I don't even adjust adjustable sights until I've had a chance to get familiar with the gun. Wouldn't consider changing a trigger for awhile.

I have a new HK p30sk V1 with decocker. The trigger is superior to a HK p30s I owned about two years ago. But, I don't really like it, at all. I've put about 500 rounds thru the p30sk; I'm now considering trigger work on it. But, not LEM. It's not my cup of tea. It has benefits; others swear by it.

I like the HK triggers in the USP9 and USP45, both Tacticals and Experts (the triggers are match triggers). I like the HK triggers in the Mark 23, the p7 series and the HK4.

That's just me. Everyone needs to know what they like.

Hey guys, I only said to "inquire" about converting that HK45 to a LEM. I'm kind of interested in what they say. Not gonna reopen the HK CS can of worms here!

FWIW, I think HK should designate GrayGuns Inc. as the "HK Custom Shop", that is your best best to get a really great HK trigger for whatever you want to use it for!

They'll do it sure. You can send them pistols to have match kits done, LEM conversions, HK has no problem doing it. It costs you of course, but so would any place you send it to.

Called HK on Monday, mailed the gun out Wednesday, they fixed it Thursday and I got it back on Friday. Went shooting with it today, everything seems to be perfect. Apparently there was a small burr on the trigger bar, which they fixed right up. Very impressed with HK, I didn't even have to miss a weekend at the range.

So the fast turn around time would indicate that A)HK has a really well staffed CS department, B) They don't have lot of guns sitting waiting for service, and C)HK quality control is tight enough to not facilitate A and B becoming a problem.

I'm impressed. Now to just get one into my hands...

call HK CS do not email them--they do not respond to emails

nor do a couple of companies I will not name

phone calls get the job done and faster I might add
