Just got myself a S&W 625-3 1989 Model wit the 3" brl. I had one many years ago and regreted letting it go. Now, I want some info on who works on Smiths, grips, and anything else that I can use! First revolver that I have got that is not SAA style so I need some guidence.

Thanks

Congrats on the new gun!! As you know, you've got a nice one.

If you need to get some new moonclips, you may want to check out the RIMZ clips from www.beckhamdesign.com No tools needed to load or unload.

Grips are really subjective. The factory Kim Ahrens that came on my 325PD are a good compromize bewteen size and control.

Pretty much the same gun as your 625, but 1/4" shorter barrel and Sc/Ti materials.

Enjoy the new/old gun...

The pistol came with a set of Pachmeyer (sp) grips that are a little big for my liking. I like the smaller style grips for carrying, but there are a lot of nice ones that I have got to handle lately. I really like the Ahrens in the pic--gonna have to look those up.

Thanks

My 625 feels good with rubber grips . Hogues I think. I have just got 10 RIMZ moonclips thru and reckon they'll be great to use ... at least - save me using a toool to empty. Probably a mix of both steel and plastic could work well.

I think you'll find this a good tool for rapid D/A .. in fact I know of some folks who use these for IDPA - very successfully. Enjoy.

I never liked rubber grips...until I had my 625 converted by Clark Custom to .460 Rowland....now the Packy decelerators rate pretty high in my book. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...or holder...whatever the case may be.

My 3" 629 still wears the factory finger-grooved wood "combat grips". Not the prettiest in my collection, but they allow decent control of The Beast, and so they stay. I have Ahrends on my 3" 624, but they're narrow enough that they'd probably be a mite unpleasant on its fire-breathing cousin...

How does sthe finish on the 325PD hold up? How does the recoil feel compaired to say a standard 625 4" gun? I keep toying with the idea of getting a 325PD. TIA for your input. :)

edit; sumoj275.. nice 625-3 you're gonna love it.

I've had the 325PD for about 6 months, probably around 3k rounds of ammo, and the finish is still like new. However... I don't use a leather belt holster to carry it. I use a padded nylon holster tossed in a jacket or vest pocket, so that's pretty easy on any finish.

Using the recoil calculator over at Real Guns, my standard reload of a 200 grain bullet at 800 fps generates 7# recoil in the 325PD, and 4# recoil in my 4" 625 Mountian Gun. Recoil really isn't bad at all, but a 40% increase is noticable.
