Anyone have experience, good or bad with the Springfield armory xd in .40. I'm in the market for a new pistol and have been eying one of those or a Glock 22. Any Input would be greatly appreciated.

I had an incredible experience with an xd40. I only sold it to buy an xd45. Should have kept it to have both!

It was truly 100% reliable from the first shot. 2-" at 15 yd accuracy. Good sights. Good enough grip. Decent capacity.....a little wide to CCW.

The one that I owned was very reliable and just as accurate as any other gun that I have owned. That said, the Springfield XD is the only gun that I have ever owned that I disliked. I hated the trigger and it always annoyed me that high cap magazines for it, excluding 45, hold less rounds than high caps in most other duty guns.

I've had the .40 subcompact for years now. I've put a lot through it. It's fed everything and I honestly can't recall any jams.

I've been very pleased with it.

I have had a .40 XD Subcompact for about 10 years and love it. Roughly 15,000 flawless rounds and very accurate for a 3" barrel gun.

I love my XD, and if you get one before the 31st you get 2 extra mags, mag pouch, and a pretty nice little bag. Makes an already totally affordable pistol a smoking good deal. :)

How many other handguns do you own? How many of them are in .40? How many in 9mm?

My advice is if you like the gun buy it. But buy it in 9mm, unless you've got some experience with both 9 and 40 and have an informed opinion. If this is a first gun, I'd rent the 9mm version and the .40 version. Then make your decision.

Let me preface this by saying I personally feel the .40 is by far the best self defense round. *THAT IS JUST MY OPINION*.

That being said I have to agree with the above quote that if you are new to handguns I agree with the suggestion to get the 9mm. The 9mm is a lighter round that is easier to handle and has plenty enough stopping power. Many different Law Enforcement Agencies use 9mm as standard duty ammo. Also if you are a new shooter you will want to practice as much as possible and 9mm is about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of .40 for target/practice ammo. The more you practice the more accurate you will become and although I personally feel a .40 is a more effective round with more stopping power a well placed 9mm has much more stopping power than a .40 that misses.

I own a 9mm and a 44 mag. I like the .40 as a sd round. Just asking for others experiences with this particular model. Going to get a new pistol and want it chambered in .40. The reviews I've read are mostly positive on the xd. Keep them coming. Will likely be picking one up this week. We shall see how it shoots. Any recommendations on an iwb hostler for the xd subcompact. Got my ccw a few weeks ago and my g19 is just not comfortable to carry. Hoping the xd subcompact will be a better fit

A different holster or position on the body can make a big difference. I carry a G19 everyday and almost dont notice the gun is there.

Now, granted the smaller gun will be easier to carry. Just make sure you can shoot it well enough for CCW purposes. Some smaller guns shoot GREAT, some not as easy to shoot well with

Thanks shark bite. It's a good thing I enjoy practicing with all my firearms. Especially a new one :) the Glock is just a little to long. I guess I'll just have to shoot the xd until I am proficient with it:rolleyes: it will be fun to sling some lead anyways
