New Hampshire Firearm-Friendly?

I've been offered a fairly good job in NH, and I need to decide rather quickly. I'd appreciate any and all comments about New Hampshire re: firearms issues. I'm originally from Maryland, have lived in Mississippi, and am currently in West By God Virginia (guess which state did NOT issue me a carry permit). How might NH compare to any of the aforementioned? Thanks for your help!

NH is a lot more gun-friendly than Maryland, for sure. I can't compare it to the others on your list.

Plus NH is adjacent to VT and ME. VT allows open and concealed carry with no permit required. Maine is also fairly gun-friendly and will issue a non-resident permit (dunno if they honor NH).

Just watch out for Massachusetts to the south.

According to handgunlaw.us, Maine does not honor NH permits. The only New England state that does honor NH permits is VT. One then has to go to PA to get to the next state that has reciprocity with NH.

NH and WV do not have reciprocity, so if you make the move, you may have an interim where you can't carry.

I like NH, and spent my childhood years in Maine, but gun laws are one of many reasons why I won't move back to New England.

Northern New England isn't all THAT draconian. New Hampshire allows open carry without a permit. (However, like PA, a permit is required to carry a firearm in a vehicle, so open carry without a permit is of limited benefit. But -- with a permit, you don't have any concerns about "printing.")

And, as has been noted, VT has no permit requirements or process. Maine is gun-friendly, in general (as long as you stay out of Portland).

I have a NH permit for when I visit my sister. I consider NH to be as gun-friendly and as carry-friendly as Pennsylvania. I haven't paid much attention to West-by-God-Virginia so I can't make a meaningful comparison there.

The only New England state that does honor NH permits is VT.

VT doesn't 'honor' any carry 'license', as anyone over the age of 16 not carrying with the 'avowed purpose' of harming another, is legal to carry openly or concealed...People from other states may purchase guns in VT as long as all Federal laws are followed, and the laws from the states the person lives in, if returning to that state with the weapon...There are many 'summer people' that have firearms at their seasonal residences...

Section 4003. Carrying dangerous weapons

A person who carries a dangerous or deadly weapon, openly or concealed, with the intent or avowed purpose of injuring a fellow man, or who carries a dangerous or deadly weapon within any state institution or upon the grounds or lands owned or leased for the use of such institution, without the approval of the warden or superintendent of the institution shall be imprisoned not more than two years or fined not more than $200.00, or both.or concealed here...

No loaded long guns in vehicles on public roads...

Re: Vermont - I wasn't sure if their constitutional carry only applied to Vermont residents.

Maine may not be draconian, and may be relatively gun-friendly, but Maine only honors the permits of eight other states.

Maine permits are good in more than that, though, as many states honor all states' permits.

Maine's non-resident permit process doesn't seem too painful, although it is the first state I've encountered that wants copies of all other states' firearms permits that the applicant holds.
