No, not new to the wonderful world of firearms, but new to TFL. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, & thought this looked like a good place to settle in. Lots of knowledgeable folks around here. Fortunately not too many trolls.
Now, for a little background on myself. I'm 33yrs young (I can't even run for President for another two years yet- heh), married, father of one 3 yr old son, Professional Security Oficer for the last ten years, and Concealment holster maker for the same length of time. I'm also an amateur gunsmith and build pistols for myself & my friends.
Now, on to the part of our program where I
make friends & enemies by listing my favorite firearms ;> )
I like 1911's better than any other pistol design. I've tried 'em all, & I always come back to the Colt. I like to get untouched stock, basic pistols & build 'em up to be street-worthy. My second favorite pistol is the Browning Hi Power, especially in its current MK III incarnation. I am about to begin my Hi Power mechanical education on my newest acquisition.
As modern pistols go, the H&K USP in .45 is my favorite, but I really wish they'd do something with the single-action trigger on that thing. Not the pull itself, but the excessive takeup after reset. Anybody else notice this fault? I have had two of them, played with five or six (one just today), & they all have the same cruddy trigger action that makes it impossible for me to shoot well at speed. The gun is way accurate & reliable, but that damn trigger. Oh, well...
SIGs rank high on my list, as well. Especially the 228/229 series (in 9mm, thank you very much. I can't take a liking to that .40 Short & Weak ;>P)
Rifle discussion is another forum, but I'd like to say that I decided that the AR-15 is the one for me when I was about 15. I tried HK91's & 93's, several different AK's, a Galil, Valmet, etc.,but once again, I'm back with the AR.
Looking forward to a long & edifying stay here at The Firing Line!
