New guy, bidding on my first 1894...

I have been researching the Winchester 1894 because I am planning on bidding on a 1927 built Win 94 this Saturday. Not sure how many bidders will be there but I feel confident I will be in the running for top bid. The rifle looks good with good stock but I am a bit disappointed in the amount of bluing left on the barrel but I do want to add this to my 1972 Marlin 336 and Savage 99 lever action 300. Here are a couple of photos of the 94, the 99 and my 336...

Found this site when I was researching for the 1894... I think this may not be my last Winchester...

If a shooter is your goal this should be fine. Because of the alterations, this rifle will hopefully fit in your budding collection at a reasonable price. A word of warning from a long time collector, one Winchester is never enough.
 
It looks to be a fairly hard to find Model 94 Short Rifle, that's had sling swivel eyes added.

If I were you, I'd stay there until you got it.

Well the bidding went to high. Over $1000 and we could not check out the barrel before we bid. I did snag another Savage 99 lever action 300 and a High Standard 22LR. Spent 200% less than I was going to for the Savage and 25% less than my top for the High Standard pistol. Saw a nice British Enfield 303 with bayonet let go for $125... Photo below...

COOK, I think I am sorry you lost the bid. I was not sure you were aware of the severely damaged buttstock. This issue should have kept the cost to under $700. I have always been a fan of the 99's. Care to show a pic of your new rifle?
