New Gun - HK VP9

I picked up an HK VP9 yesterday from Cabelas. They price matched an internet price. I'm not big on buying from Big Box Stores, but I'll tell you what... after the customer service that I received from them, I couldn't be happier. :)

I picked the HK VP9 LE model up for $664.40. Would you guys say that I got a good deal on it?

I've always been a Glock or Springfield XDM kind of guy, but for some reason I wanted to buy a Cadillac over the standard work horse Chevy. Have you guys ever had any experience with the HK VP9?

Thanks for the suggestions!

The LE version of the VP9 comes with 3 mags and NS. I have an HK P30 9mm which uses the same magazine as the VP9, and these mags are about $50.00 each if you can find them, I was fortunate to find a spare mag at an LGS one day. The NS on your gun are an upgrade over the stock iridescent sights on my P30, but I like these sights just fine. That gun is in very short supply right now. So you got a great deal for a VP9 with an extra mag and the NS upgrade!

Awesome! That is good to hear. I was looking at the P30, but I've always owned striker fired pistols (aside from my 1911), and I wasn't ready to make the switch. I had a Sig P226 for about 6 months, but couldn't get used to the DA/SA trigger on it and ended up selling it.

How do you like the P30? It looks to be almost identical to the VP9, just that it uses a hammer and not a striker.

I like my VP9 a lot.

The mags can be found cheaper if you search around and get lucky on timing. I found themyself for around 35 each.

That is a good deal. Best price I've seen online is around $670 and everybody is out of stock. My brother picked up a VP9 recently and after shooting it, I want one. Wish I had a Cabelas close by.

Very nice!

I had the opportunity to rent an HK VP9 earlier this year. Very nice pistol

I only recently decided to start looking at polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols. I never cared for Glocks (front of grip too blocky, hump on back strap too big, weird grip angle) and S&W M&Ps and SA XDs didn't feel right in my hand either.

I pretty much decided that the HK VP9, Walther PPQ and Sig P320 were the top contenders.

After shooting the HK VP9 and the Sig P320 (in .40 cal) a week apart, I chose the Sig P320 and now have one in .45 ACP. Mine is full-sized and I will probably buy a smaller pistol chambered in 9mm in about a year. I will have to find a PPQ to demo, and revisit the VP9, but I will likely go with the P320 carry model and buy a compact grip and magazines for carry purposes.

The P320 grip fit my hand a little better and I did experience a bit of trigger bite with the HK VP9 but the HK is certainly a superb pistol.

Congrats on your HK VP9. I have heard nothing but good reviews and positive comments on it. You've got to love the quality engineering of those puppies.

I seriously considered getting one last month, but ended up with its sibling, an HK P30S. I just had to have the manual safety and a thumb decocker. I picked up a few extra 15rd mags for it locally. They cost me $42 each. So don't pay $50.

Report back with your experience after you have fired a few rounds.

Congrats!!! Another happy customer here. I got mine at Mt. Gander a few weeks ago for $699.99..............but I really paid the price match price from Academy Sports of $629.00. Then, since I opened a Mt. Gander credit card, I got at least another $60 in perks so it really brought it down to about $570.00....and no interest if paid off in 6 months.

I've fired several 50 round boxes through it, and I have had only one problem with extraction with Federal 115 gr aluminum. The 115 gr Perfecta have been flawless...and even better since they are $9.78 per box.

I made a trip to El Paso Saddlery where I picked up a nice holster for it. Can't wait to carry it January 1st when I'm unconstrained with my agency's policy.

Great pistol, very reliable & accurate, mine is a "V3" DA/SA trigger. The big difference is the VP9 is striker fired and the P30 is hammer fired, they share magazines and the modular grip setup. And HK is supposed to be bringing out the "SK" (subcompact) versions of the VP guns next year,

FTTU, I'm originally from El Paso. El Paso Saddlery has some great holsters. I'm looking hard at the SafariLand and the Bladetech OWB retention holsters. I am just trying to find one for under $75. Those puppies can be expensive.

It sounds like you got a pretty good deal on that VP9! My EDC is a Springfield XDM 3.8" in .40S&W. I've always been a Glock guy, but for CCW I really like the beaver tail safety that the XDM offers.

I haven't had an opportunity to go to the Range yet, but I'm hoping that I can make it before Christmas!

Great Choice

I have about 11.000 rounds of various ammo through mine. No problems whatsoever .
I know from a friend at H&K that the VP9 Compact is on the drawing board, can't wait.

I've been running the same Serpa with both my P30 and HK45 for the last 4 years.
The VP9, or SFP9 as it is known in the rest of the world, will fit the same holster.
Before anybody says anything if you shoot yourself while using a Serpa it's on you and not the holster.

Vp9

You got a decent price on your purchase. We could have given it to you for slightly less. Maybe in the future you'll check us out. We do negotiate on price. Here's our website www.tftpa.com. If there's a gun you don't see just message us we have a lot of distributors we use so we can get anything. The VP9 is a great gun I like the fact that it has very minimal recoil and smooth trigger squeeze.

I'm just curious, but how did you get Cabela's to price match an online seller? I've had them price match several times before, and they've stated that they will price match anybody with in a 50 mile radius that actually has the gun in stock. They then call the gun store to verify price and stock status.

nomad686, El Paso Saddlery cranks out a lot of holsters, and if you ever go back in the back to the factory, they have bins full of already made ones for many different guns so you don't have to wait for an order.

Also, I haven't researched any holsters since I was looking for my G43 when it was released so I "settled" for an early offering from Safariland. For my VP9, I will start carrying it January 1 so the EP Saddlery will do alright until I get the itch for something new. Hopefully I will get a chance to take a little trip out there in the next few months to see if there is anything new or I order something.

Thump_rrr, I've been carrying my G23 gen 4 duty weapon in a Blackhawk Serpa for the last few years. It is the fastest drawing duty holster I've ever had, and I'm happy with its level of security.

I know it has a bad rap and for good reason. If it fails, and I have seen them fail in internet videos, the weapon will not be available in times of need. However, I'm mindful of their "shortcomings", and will limit any probability of those failures.

The Blackhawk Serpa clone, which is included with the TP9SA, will get me through until I can find something I'm happier with. At this time, I've decided it won't be my regular carry weapon but will stand nightstand and go-bag duty.
