New grip for my 625?

Howdy,

Just picked up a 4" PC 625 with the laminated Miculek grips this week. I've only put 100 rounds through it but I'm not sure these grips are for me. I have average to slightly larger than average hands and the grips feel narrow to me. Not front to back, but side to side. I will be using this gun for IDPA and similar matches so I'm not concerned about maximum conceal ability but do want a grip that easy to hold on to and still facilitates easy reloading.

I have a 686 with the rubber mono-grip and like that fine though it is still a little narrow in an L-frame. I'm right-handed and like to be able to get my weak-hand palm pressed into the grip. I can do it with the 686 but can't do it easily with the 625.

While I may sound all-practical here, I also wouldn't mind finding a functional grip that dresses up the gun also. I've looked at some of the Hogue wood grips and think they look great but are they any more hand filling than the L-frame rubber grips? The finish on the Muculek grip is slippery if your hands are greasy or wet. Are the waxed, wood Hogues less slippery?

I would appreciate any experiences you can share before I start building a grip collection.

Thanks!

Joe

If your hand palm is concave, I've found a palm swell helpful. The Hogue grips that convert the round butt to square seem to have a little more meat at the top. Coupled with a small square of skateboard tape on the top of the frame, a high grip is achieved which I find conducive to better shooting. yrmv. The high grip renders the squaring of the base of the grip moot.

Hello. I have been around and around with the grip issue myself. The Hogue woodies with round butt to square butt conversion do fill the hand better than the rubbers. I had a set of the woodies with the conversion and finger grooves. They fit me fair, but I just could not get used to the finger groove placement on the Hogues.

You might need to go custom. As a matter of fact, I just, today, received my custom shooting masters from Herrett's. They fill my hand perfectly even though they have a rounded butt. These grips were made to fit my hand.

When you order from Herrett's, you have to send them a tracing of your hand relaxed, and a tracing pressing against a hard surface. Also, if you plan on ordering from Herrett's they will charge your card before the grips are made. They quote a 15 week wait, but I got mine in 12.5 weeks. Also, I suggest the oil finish and the figured walnut upgrade.

I like my set of Herrett's very much, and I am sure there are others here that will vouch for them. Sling Shot

Joe A,

If you want to sell your Miculek grips, send me a PM. I love the Miculek grips and find that they are perfect for two handed double action shooting that you will see in IDPA.
