New GP100 Front Sight Options

Love the new revolver but I've never been a fan of fiber optic sights.
I do understand why so many like them, they're just not for me.
Has anyone researched available options for the new GP100 in 44 Special?

Just a personal rant. The standard GP100 (and Super Redhawk) has one of the neatest front-sight replacement setups out there. You push in a plunger the front sight pops out, you pop in the new sight and release the plunger.

For some unknown reason, Ruger decided NOT to use this option in the .22LR and .44Spl GP100s. So none of the existing front sights for the GP100 or Super Redhawk will work on those two GP100s. A truly bizarre decision that I can not explain.

Ruger says they're migrating away from the plunger system in favor of easier-to-manufacture dovetailed versions.

Novak makes a replacement front dovetailed bead sight for the GP 44 Spec in either brass or gold.
Ask for a .265".
It may need some very slight fitting.

I picked up my GP 44 today from the gunsmith, one of the things he did was R&R the FO with the brass Novak bead.

How do you like the brass?

I get cutting cost of manufacturing, especially these days... just wish they'd not have begun to change things up quite yet.

I really do like the basic blade with red insert that has kind of been a standard on Redhawks and GP100s for so long. Nothing at all wrong with the dove tail, I guess I just need to practice a little patience until someone offers an option similar to them.

You're right John, the plunger is a neat set up.

If I were ordering direct from Novak, I'd go gold.

Brass darkens with age, gold doesn't.
I THINK mine's brass, it didn't come directly from Novak.

I do like it better than the FO, it's a stronger sight.

The plunger setup is very convienent, but they never did a good job supporting it. IIRC they only sell one or 2 very basic sights in the Ruger shop.

Does the GP100 and Redhawk use the same front sight base/mount? I am trying to find a target front sight for my Redhawk and there is much more available for GP100. The only thing I could find was an oversized sight that you have to reduce the height to work and it costs around $40.

I tried both the red and green fiber optic sight on my 6" GP100 and ended up going back to the factory red ramp sight that it came with. Seems I do a little better with it.

I guess I'm glad I bought my GP100 when I did, I really like the plunger front sight on it. I can't stand fibre optic sights either. I just use the red front sight that Ruger offered when I bought mine.
I have better luck with it than any of the other sights I used including the fibre optics I wasted my money on.
