New Glock Finish

I have had a Glock 17 for several years and it has the traditional rough dark gray finish over the tennifer treated steel.

Just recently I bought a new Glock 19 and its finish is quite different. It is very smooth and a darker color, almost black. Cosmetically it is much more pleasing.

Has Glock changed its external finish? If so, I think for the better.

Cap'n,

Hold a Glock up to a bright light, and you'll see little glimmers of bronze (or some kind of yellow metal). The guns are slender, with consistant lines, and lightly radiused corners. They really do have a strange beauty to them...

Now if you want ugly, the Ruger P-series fits that bill! Good guns, buy UG-LY!

Last week I was looking at some new Glocks and noticed that this batch in Seattle even had a shiny gloss to them.

Looked great but hey, I just bought a used G19 with a factory hi cap for $49 so I'm happy.

jtduncan, I'll give you $100 for that pistol, more than double your money! I am sure you get a lot of offer like that.

The slide may be a refinish either from the factory of a refurbished gun or an MoS2 coating done after market. I have seen a number of Glock slides with the MoS2 coating applied.

I've got a new 30 that has the shiny finish. Rumor has it that the finish was modified to make the weapon less resistant to fingerprints as a way of keeping ATF off Glock's back. That's just a rumor.

My two newest Glocks have the new finish. I like it much better than the dry-chakly feel of my older Glocks. It looks and feels like the coating in a teflon non-stick pan.

I keep my Glocks' slides wiped down with Break Free CLP. It makes them look like new. Of course they will turn dry/chalky looking as the CLP wears off but if you keep it applied they look great. Give it a try.

Reply to Captain Bligh regarding the "cosmetic appeal" of the Glock:

The Glock is a tool. As such, like a good crowbar, it is not pretty, but if you believe function equals beauty, then the Glock is truly beautiful.

I like pretty guns - bought a Ruger 10/22 Deluxe Sporter just cause I liked the walnut stock. However when I need a gun for its intended purpose, it simply needs to go boom when required in a reliable and accurate way.

Guess that means when the lights are out that Roseanne Barr is just as good as Cindy Crawford - sad but true.

Have to say that I think that the Browning Capitan 9mm HP is the prettiest handgun I have ever seen and I hope to own one someday.

A Glock "cosmetically appealing?" Surely you gest! It's like buying a pig a new dress. It may be different but appealing? :p [/quote]

I guess you would rather that the gun look good, rather than shoot good? :)

You were doing fine until this statement! You forget the tactile feedback from the two, I'll take Cindy, and you can have Roseanne. :)

hey! i do think glocks are good looking. they are very buisness like and not flashy but just nice. i guess the fact that they work makes them alot better looking to me than a gloden 1911 that doesn't shoot reliably ;-)

i got a glock 19 today and it had the old gray-black finish. the finish isn't shiny at all and i'm glad. i like the dull look which ads to its look IMO. also the slide finish makes it very easy to grasp so i can pull back the slide even without using the slide serations in the back.

Pete80 and Johnwill, I was just trying for a little humor there. But, regarding "if you want a pretty gun, buy a 1911...", I did! And, it's a good shooter! So there!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

pull trigger --> BANG
pull trigger --> BANG
pull trigger --> BANG

do this TWELVE more times before reloading.

Now THAT'S beauty.
