New Glock 20

Purchased yesterday and is my first venture into 10mm. It will go to the range today. Owners opinions please.

Congrats! IMHO it's a great pistol. Even easier to shoot than the G21. My second generation G20 has been flawlessly reliable since I shipped it to Glock for the ejector upgrade.

Tom,
I had one about a yr ago...super accurate...never had a single problem..I sold it due to high ammo prices...the cheapest price for target stuff in my area was around $16.95 a box & I dont reload !! Good choice though...

Took it to range this morning and put 100rds of PMC 170gr JHP thru it. Reliability was 100% and accuracy appeared to be very good. Both new mags would let me load 10rds each time without the mag loader which is much better than the G21 I owned. I don't know how hot the above rounds are loaded but recoil was almost nothing! I also shot each mag full and a round in the chamber. The mags were hard to seat in the gun like this but as I said reliability was 100%. Looks like Ga Arms is going to be best place for ammo for this 10mm. Can anyone tell me hotest factory ammo available? Cor Bon perhaps?

Great gun.

If you are a reloaded put an aftermarket fully supported barrel in it. I put a 6" kkm with a nice comp in mine and have no compaints. Also a heavier recoil spring from wolff allows some "real 10mm" loads to be fired without flinging the brass into the next county.

"HOTTEST 10mm"

Mine, but not reliable in unmodified autopistols.

Recommend Georgia Arms, Pro Load, and CorBon for standard firearms.

I love my G20.

There's just something about the round that has always intrigued me, just wish it was more common.

If only i could get a Sig220 chmbered for 10mm, I'd be in heaven

Until you fired it and the frame cracked.

Welcome to the club

Get use to hearing "dont you mean 9mm". After a few more range trips you will have the 10mm story memorized.
When I got my g20 I did alot of ammo testing. I found the Winchest Silvertips in 175gr to be the best performers. They have the most muzzle energy of any other conventional factory loaded 10mm by far. The performanve of the bullet in wetpack, water filled milkjugs and balistic gel was very impressive. never had a round fail to expand (average .75) or come apart even when firing through thick, hardpacked phonebooks. Penetration was very good (average 18-20 inch), some might call it overpenetration, but I call that just enough..2 holes let more air in. The dangers of overpenetration are extreamly miniscule and have been greatly exagerated. The dangers of underpenetration are much worse. If you live in a very crouded metro area or spend lots of time in the mall or other crowded places, overpenetration might be more of an issue for you. My advise would be to stay away from the Cor-bons. I had pretty dismal results with them in my humble testing. about 50% lost their jackets in each type of test medium. Expansion was pretty good in bare Gel, but they started pluging up in clothed gel and wetpack. The weight and velocity just isnt there. I wouldnt feel unsafe carrying them (I wouldnt feel outgunned w/ 10mm FMJ's) but their are much etter loads out their. I would classify the Cor-bons as .40 +P more than real 10mm. Ofcourse thats alot better than the .40 longs that most companys call 10mm :)
What really impressed me about the 10mm is that I was able to load my practice rounds to the same powerlevel (1290fps at about 650+ft/lbs) without coming anywere close to max loads.
What really confuses me about the demise of the 10mm is the popularity of the .40. Thats would be like the .38 being more popular ,and widely thought to be better than the .357. It just dont make sence. Oh well, what can you expect from a world that makes SUV's out of car chassies.

Yep, I agree with everyone else here. I love the 10mm too. It's a great round and my Glock 20 has been a great gun.

I do definitely recommend getting a stronger spring from Wolf springs unless all you plan to shoot is Federal's subsonics. While it will work just fine with the factory spring, a higher power spring makes the gun feel smother and improves follow through control.

I also have a Jarvis barrel for it which substantially improves the life of the brass if you're a reloader. If you're not a reloader, an aftermarket barrel isn't really necessary.

Couple of things you need.

A Dillon 550 with all of the bells and whistles. Maybe $600 but you'll save money within months. Can reload 10mm for $90 a case for lead SWCs or about $100 a case for copper plated or FMJ Montana Gold bullets. Dealers around here want $19.99 a box so you do the math -- $400 a case retail. And you can buy Georgia Arms ammo but is it tuned to your Glock 20's barrel? No. Reload.

Second, a 6" KKM hunting barrel for those 3 inch groups at 50 yards if you want to hunt and shoot some real smack down rounds at 1500 fps out of you 20.

Third, Wolff steel recoil rod and a 22 and 24 # recoil spring to reduce recoil, save your brass from buldging, and save your hand and the gun's frame from battering.

Fourth, some Glock adjustable sights. At 50 and 75 yards, you may want to tune your gun for hunting season. Those feral hogs can be mean!

Fifth, a Hogue Handall wrap around grip. Absorbs recoil well and fills my hand just right. May work for you too!

Sixth, a Federal Arms 40SW conversion barrel for shooting the milder 10mm special in there for times when 10mm ammo isn't around.

And, seventh, at least two Glock hi caps.

Got all of the above and they really make the Glock 20 useful for home defense or hunting or accurate long distance shooting.

Where my 45 ACP drops 6 inches, and the 40SW casnnot treaD, and my 9mm lacks the 500 fpe at 100 yards, look there and you will see the 10mm cartridge - the only semi-auto chambered round designed for hunting.

Love mine.

Now, can a SW 610 revolver be in your future too? ;)

WESHOOT2:

Now stop that.

We all know that MCNETT over on GT has the market cornered on balls to the wall that was so hot your momma felt it in Detroit nuclear rounds in the venerable 10mm get the hell out of house and nail that deer on the friggin spot load.

Ask and he will provide.

Screw Corbon and the like. Just buy starline brass and work up your own loads and discard the brass. And you can get upwards of 100 plus fps over theirs. But longloading it in a SW 610 is the key. Sorry. You'll need one of those for the nuclear 10mm club.

But you've already stepped towards the darkenss. forget the SW asellout agreement. Guns are flying off of dealer's shelves. try gettting any ammo lately. Another reason to reload. Make your own. Our buy some dies for a relaoding buddy and a case of beer for after the session.

Reload brother. Reload. Come over to the dark side Luke. You are my son . ......

Weiser:

Forget the Sig 220. It will never be availble in 10mm. Heck, the 45 ACP frames are aluminium and have had cracking problems.

And at $679 NIB, they are hard to sell over a nice Kimber 1911.

Sig 220 is best tasted used with a pair of hi caps police trade in for $425. That's what I paid a year ago.

But no 10mm for Sig.

Study the history of the 10mm.

Bunch of wussy FBI agents couldn't qualify with the 200 grain Norma rounds so the short and weak was created. FBI lead charge. Miami shootout scared agencies then carrying 9mm and then jumped to 40SW.

Decent SD round but the accuracy at 50 yards sucks compared to 10mm or 45 ACP unless you've got a tuned gun like a Glock 35.

Screw 40SW, nice for out to 15 yards but accuracy can suffer unless you hot load them to the max to get about 1300 fps then it becomes flatter shooting.

HISTORY OF 10mm

Norma made some ammo that destroyed Bren Ten, so -200fps later we decided that cop-chick hands weren't big enough to hold 1.260" cartridges so the 10mm really just describes bore diameter (okay, close enough) so now it's called "40 S&W".

Except Ted Nugent; he thinks 10mm Glocks are cool.

I like it, but I'm waiting for a launch platform.............

WESHOOT2,

I have noticed that McNett has been pumping out some ballsy handloads lately, have any of yours been in this area?

C'mon, give us the dirt

G20 is a real nice gun. Good choice. Factory ammo? Basically 175gr.Silvertips are warm,Federal Classic 155gr. is warm,Triton 155gr.QS are warm,Hornady loads are warm-warmer,Proload,Georgia Arms and some Corbon loads are pretty hot (155gr. at about 1350fps and 180gr. at around 1150fps) and Corbon 180gr.JSP and JHP loads are quite hot (1320+fps) (as hot as you wanna shoot in an unmodified pistol and debatably too hot for a CCW). These loads have all the power I wanna try and put out of a 10mm. Satisfying recoil and a good BARK! Most other 10mm loads are still hotter than .40 (10mm short ;) ) but some not too much. Neat caliber,I`m glad I decided to try it. :) Marcus

Completed my two and only mods to the G20 yesterday that I intend to do. Polished the feed ramp and dremeled the bottom corners of the mag release. I shoot left handed and the corners were digging into my finger when using a high grip hold.
