New Garands?

Got a flier from my local range the other week. It included the following:

"Springfield made new production M1 Garands due in before Christmas. Limited production in 30-06 or 308. Order now for chance of getting one."

Anybody know anything about Springfield producing new Garands?

I just got off the phone with Springfield...and it's true. A few new Garands will ship in November and they should be up to speed by February 2002. The initial offering will be in 30'06 only and will retail for $950.

Thanks for the info, Atticus. The flier I got seemed to indicate that this new production from Springfield will be limited. Did Springfield indicate to you whether this will be a limited production thing or if they will be adding the new Garands to their regular product line? Thanks again for any info.

I got the impression that this would be a regular product line. She said that they plan to roll them out slowly starting in November (test market maybe?) and scale up after the new year. A .308 version in planned for the future.

I've heard about this, and it sounds frickin' awesome. I hope they'll do a regular production, but still $950 is a little steep. I really want a Garand, but figure I'll just go through the CMP and get one for about half the new Springfield's price.

that Garand is one sweet rifle... them GIs in WWII were fortunate to have such a wonderful weapon.

BTW, the Springfield Armory website doesn't say anything about it... they should learn to keep that updated... a lot of people do their research online!

It has been in Shotgun News.

They have been advertising this in a Shotgun News add for a month or so. They say they are limiting production to 10,000 rifles. They say go to the website for more info, but as has been mentioned, there is nothing on their website about it. Springfield used to have a great website a year or so ago and then they totally screwed it up and now you can't hardly get any info off of it. :(
