I took my 5 1/2" Colt New Frontier to the range this morning, beginning to get broken in:

Been having a hrad time finding Winchester 231, so have found some HP-38, which I think is the same thing.

Your thinking is correct, it's is the same powder but typically with a lower price. (H110 is the same as W296 also, btw)

And that small nugget of info appears to be the -only- thing you didn't have completely covered in this project...

--decent handloads? CHECK.
--gorgeous handgun? CHECK.
--terrific shooting? CHECK.
--documented performance? CHECK.
--great photo? CHECK.

I can't imagine there's anything left to do here! :D

Nice! Was that one handed, both hands, or benched? :) . Either way it looks like you have a good start 'breaking it in' !

Concur, powder is the same.

Mr. Wright...

I must say I always enjoy seeing your collection of single action revolvers. As I knock on the front door of middle age, I find myself more drawn to revolvers in general, and my most recent purchases have been replicas of 19th century tech.

Not sure what I'm trying to get at here, but maybe understanding that what has been around for a while works, and will continue to do so. I own a Glock and an AR, and while I enjoy both and rely on the Glock for home and personal/carry type defense, something about a thumb-buster or lever gun just feels right. Might call it romance in the classical or literary sense, I don't know.

Anyway, thank you for once again showing that just because something isn't the newest whizz-bang bit, it can still be effective. And taken care of with a touch of style and class. My hat is doffed to you, sir.

I've had the feeling since I was a teenager back in the late 70s :) .... and hasn't stopped yet knocking on the 50 milestone.... Justs feels right as you say.
