New Front sight question

I just got a model 19 from a relative. It has alot of holster wear on the front sight and maybe even been dropped on the front sight as it has a little chip out of it but been smoothed out over time from the holster wear. It's kind of worn down and i want to get a new one. I am just going to be shooting IDPA with it, not for any carry or anything else. I want a sight i'll be able to use for IDPA purposes or maybe a night sight/idpa that would work out well. i dont know much about revolver sights and any info would help. Websites? prices? thanks

Is this an older gun with the front blade integral with the ramp and barrel?
If so, the best way is to mill off the blade and cut a dovetail in the ramp. About anything you can think of can be bought to fit that. This guy does nice work but it isn't cheap.

The Smith & Wesson Performance Center will replace sights for $40-$100 depending on what is wanted.

If you live near me, my 'smith will do it, but he does not take mailorder work.

If it is a later gun with separate front sight blade, Brownells sells several types and brands.

I don't think you need night sights for IDPA unless you go to a club that has a lot of low light shoots; and not then if they are way dark and flashlights are used. I am currently using fiber optic sights. They are very visible in any sort of lighting, but are a bit fragile for duty or carry.

This is a model 19-3. Probably 12 years or a bit older. Looks to be as if the front sight is on there pretty good (meaning i dont know if it just pops off). I'll have to take it to somebody local and get it checked out to be sure before i do anything. Thanks

Best I can tell, the sight blade and ramp on my M19-3 are integral with the barrel. I think the best way is to just have the blade cut off and the ramp dovetailed for something you like. Or call S&W.
