Hey guys, I've been reading awhile and decided to join today. I've been a shooter since the 90s, and have had and sold many guns. I've grown tired of striker, plastic ccw guns. Any opinions on Sig 238/938?

Welcome to the Forum. I do not have either of those Sigs, but I have a few of the others. They have served me well and are good firearms.

Have a very good friend from Iowa. She brags on their football program with good reason. I used to visit the Rock Island Arsenal frequently. Iowans are nice friendly folks.

I bought the sig 938 for my sister for her 21st birthday. It is an awesome gun. So light and small. It has an 8lb trigger but was smooth and did not feel near as bad as I was expecting. It is very accurate when you do your part. There is not a whole lot of real estate to grab onto so you really have to line up the shot. Also remember that it is small and light, so it kicks quite a bit. I was surprised at the recoil. They also are a sa design so you will want to carry cocked and locked. I don't mean in any way to sway you from the gun but just know what you are getting into. IMHO it is one of the best pocket carry type autos.

Overall, she loves it and I think it is a spectacular gun. If I wanted one smaller to replace my xds, that is what I would get.

Welcome aboard. The Sig P238 is the only pistol of which I own two of the same model. My wife got hers first, as a primary carry pistol. I have a G26 for every day, but I drooled over her little Sig so much that she made sure Santa got me one last Christmas. It is my "dress gun" for when the G26 is difficult to conceal or carry.

We have found the P238 to be very comfortable to shoot, much more so than similarly sized polymer .380s I have tried. Accuracy approaches amazing for a pistol of that size. The trigger is short and crisp, though not as light as a good 1911; I am not sure I would want it to be that light without the grip safety, and considering that it is often carried in a pocket (me) and occasionally in a purse (my wife). Really good sights are standard.

It is often said that it is 1911 in miniature. That is true as far as being a single action pistol with a frame mounted safety, intended to be carried cocked and locked. That is about as far as it goes, though. As mentioned, there is no grip safety, nor is there a barrel bushing, so take down is different - simpler in some respects, reminding me of a Beretta 1934 among others. The trigger is hinged rather than sliding back like a 1911.

Overall, a little jewel of a handgun, in my opinion. The differences between models are mostly cosmetic, except that those with "HD" in the model name have a steel frame. All the others are steel slides on aluminum alloy frames.

It isn't the cheapest of the pocket guns, but it is a one-time expense, and we are very pleased.

The 938 is very similar, a little bit bigger because of the bigger round. It handles nice, but I haven't shot one. Folks who have say the recoil is noticeably greater than the 238 but quite manageable. It is hard to find bad comments about them, too. A recent discussion on here made me realize that the 938 is, oddly enough, not offered with a steel frame.

Thanks for the info, I currently have a lc9s pro. I think the trigger is to lite with no safety. I'm thinking of selling it for one of the Sig guns as something quality to keep ahold of.

I have had a bad experience with my P938. Issues with the barrel and terrible customer service. And I used to be a huge fan of Sig. My gun is currently at Sig awaiting a decision, unless the really come through, and so far they've been horrible, I'll be selling that gun and never buying a Sig Sauer product again.

There are many people who love their copy of the gun, but if you get stuck with one that has issues, you're very unlikely to get them resolved. It was a $729 very expensive lesson for me to learn.

Home of the American pickers. Welcome to the forum, make sure you read the rules and regulations twice, this forum is very proper and strict on what is said and what is posted, but the collected minds here are a great think tank for firearm information.

I have only handled sigs, never owned or shot one. They are nice guns. they are mass produced machines and as such, lemons will get out every once in while but sig should take care of you in the rare instance that happens.

Good luck.

P.S

I am not a big fan of polymer or striker fired systems either, but if you are looking for a compact/sub compact 9mm carry pistol, maybe try a walther PPS, see how touclike the trigger and grip. Walther makes excellent firearms eith great ergonomics and have some of the greatest triggers available on a striker gun. I have a PPQ and the trigger is amazing. I have not felt such a light crisp trigger with such a short reset on a polymer gun yet.

I have a P238. Surprisingly comfortable to shoot. Full size sights. Very well made. Reliable. Expensive.

Haven't come across a better option in .380 for concealed carry. Try one if you can.

Welcome from Florida
The wife and I have Sig's. She has two P238's one rainbow and a black one with laser and Hogue rubber grips. I have one P238 SAS and one P938 SAS. These are great accurate guns. You can't go wrong with these Sig's

I have owned a 938 for a couple of years now and have had no problems. I bought for concealed carry but have now switched to the P290 for EDC. I feel a little more comfortable with the DAO trigger of the 290 versus cocked and locked carry for the SA P938. When I am just shooting for fun, the 938 is still one of my favorite sub compact pistols. Non of the sub compacts are great as for as comfort goes but the 938 is softer shooting than most.
