New-for-Me Smith 37!

Hi Folks!

I'm the proud owner of my first revolver: a S&W 37 Airweight 38 Special with a 3" barrel. (An oddity, I know. Most seem to have a shorter barrel.)

Although I've been around autos and shotguns for awhile, the revolver thing is new to me. A few questions I hope you can help with...

- How are revolver barrels measured?

- The gun is not marked on the barrel for "+P" loads. Therefore, it should not be used with "+P" loads. Correct?

- Anyone care to recommend an aftermarket grip to replace the pretty, but tiny, Smith originals?

Thanks!
Dave

Congrats on your revolver!
The barrel is measured from the forcing cone to the muzzle. IOW, the part that screws into the frame is included in the measurement.
If it is a model 37-3, +P is OK. Your's should be a Model 37 no change because of the 3 inch barrel, therefore, no +P.
Aftermarket grips? I prefer Hogue Monogrips, but your tastes may be different. If you are an old school kind of guy, try a Tyler T. If not, just shop ebay for a month looking. Try a few different J frames in your hand to see what you like.

Got my first one the other day also. A Model 36 (no dash #). My wife owns all the wheel guns in our house (this one I'm keeping). I always was like the line from Quigley Down Under, "Never said I couldn't shoot a six gun, just never had much use for them...".

I wasn't going to get it but the salesman made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

And it does have a deep blue finish. Not unfired but not fired alot.

Looks just like this one. Same grips. But with NO wear on the finish!!!

Yesterday another dealer show us a Colt Diamondback with a 2-3 inch barrel(don't remember exactly). It looked it had been fired a few times and then put in a nightstand drawer for the past 25 years.
