For those not interested in reading the bill referenced above, the new law creates several important changes;
1. It writes the Castle Doctrine into the text of the law. This prevents some courts from eroding it.
2. The law states that when someone commits an unlawful and forceful entry into your home, business, or vehicle (this even extends to a tent) it is presumed that one is in fear of his life or great bodily harm and then is justified in the use of deadly force.
3. In the event of such shooting unless the police have reason to believe that one of several exclusion exist, you may not be arrested. The exclusions include someone who has a right to be in the home, police after having identified themselves in the performance of their diuties, or the house is a site of criminal conduct.
4. If you are arrested contrary to the law or if a civil suit is filed incident to a righteous shooting you are allowed to revover any legal cost incurred and any lost wages.
5. When in a public place that you have a right to be, the duty to retreat has been removed. Nothing else has been changed regarding the use of deadly force in public.
