Good friend and Member Sir Lone Wolf sent me this today. This should make Florida residents happy. Now if only it would set an example for 49 other states ;) .

Legislature May Bring New Gun Law To Floridians

(CBS4/AP) TALLAHASSEE Floridians with a gun permit would be guaranteed
the right to continue to do so should a state of emergency be declared
under a measure passed unanimously Tuesday by the House and now awaiting
Senate approval.

The bill (HB 285), sponsored by Rep. Mitch Needelman, R-Melbourne, was
inspired by, according to Needelman, threats of weapon confiscation in
Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.

Police and soldiers removed guns from houses after the storm flooded New
Orleans, and confiscated guns from some evacuees.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) and other groups sued the city,
arguing it took away citizens? means of protection amid the lawlessness
around the city.

The suit was later dropped after the city agreed to return the seized
firearms.

Needelman said his bill would ensure that following major disasters, gun
owners would still be able to protect themselves.

I wasn't aware that what happened in New Orleans was legal.
If I am right, which I may not be, then this is somewhat meaningless. The issue at that point in time is what the armed men with overwhelming force are trying to do (and perhaps even believe they have the right to do).

Florida does not require a gun permit.

With such a glaring mistake the rest of the story and the reporter lack any credibility.

If the law is designed that only CCW permit holders will be protected from illegal seizures then the law is lacking.

If that is not what the law is about then the reporter is an uninformed nincompoop(sp)

NO law ever prevented anything.
the only thing that will prevent confiscations are people willing to die (and kill) to keep thier guns. and those people, my friend, are in a very, very short supply.
