New Feg 45acp.

ammo first

Recently saw ad in Gun list advertising these at $250 or two @ $225 ea. pretty good deal. Anybody tested one of these babys out? Freind has the 9mm, its very nice for the money.

I hate to be the first one to piss all over FEG but I can't help it. The one (and only) experience I've had with them was REAL bad. I had a Hi-Power clone and it SUCKED. Constant rust spots. I could have stored it in a five gallone bucket full of Breakfree and it wouldn't have helped. Constant feed problems. Horrible trigger. Junk sights. Shotgun patterns instead of groups. The list goes on....

I don't know what kind of design this new .45 is in but I'd leave it alone while it's new. Let the market decide, talk to people that own them, etc. In the meantime..... Get a Colt!

The only FEG I've shot was a Makarov clone. The Makarov was definitely better. If you want a cheap 45 try the 1911 Sistema Colts.

I've had a FEG PJK HP9mm for about 15 years. Haven't had any problem with rust. The thing functions well and the oly feed problems I have expereinced were with Wolfe ammo - it was so filthy that after 75 rnds I couldn't find the feed ramp for all the crud (I disassembled it in the field, wiped the crud off the ramp and I was backin biz). It still has the mag safety, but I don't have any complaints about the trigger pull - I like SA. As for patterning it groups as well as I shoot.

I like my FEG and it likes me.

Sorry you had a bad time with yours Inspector.

See if you can check one out 1st. I have only handled one in a gunshop. The trigger seemed heavy and gritty. That is only one I have any experiance with. Mark

If you do a search on FEG and or Hi power clones You'll see a lot of information. Unfortunately, FEG also copied the SW auto system, which is where the gkk 45 came from. It's double action mode was sort of gritty and the finish wasn't very good. Still, it worked.

FEG is now working with Charles Daly to make /market 1911's. I have no experience with these.

The NEW FEG stuff is vastly superior in quality/workmanship to the older stuff, less machining marks, better deeper bluing etc. I'm wearing the grip of my older FEG grey, but I tend to do that on every handgun I shoot a lot.

A friend of mine has an FEG Hi-Power clone. It came with a gritty trigger that 500 rounds of ball seemed to take care of. It's not the prettiest gun he owns, but it works when he pulls the trigger.
