New fancy shmancy gizmo for single action hunting

Problem: Cocking a hammer can get you busted.

Solution: My new patented gizmo for safe silent hunting!

I started by trying to make something out of wood. As I was filing away I saw an old cork laying on my work bench. I tried smushing it into the hammer and what did you know? It fit snugly! Yup. So now I can rest it somewhere in my stand, fully cocked and I'll have an extra layer of protection that won't make a noise to disable.

Now, I wouldn't start juggling it or anything crazy like that, but it might be a wee bit safer.

wouldnt it be possible that it would transfer the energy to the firing pin if the hammer was struck hard enough? Not talking bout transfer bars and such just since it seems to be resting on where the hammer would strike?

The cork is very soft and when it's jammed in there, there's no hammer movement when the trigger is pulled.

Maybe I'll find a better method, but for now this is the best I can come up with.

Mighty sneaky Sneaky Steve. I rounded up a touch of para-cord, the only possible suggestion, more of a fashion statement really.

FWIW, I would never let a cocked revolver out of my hands.

I've always stood on deer stand with a cocked revolver, the thumb of my off hand betwixt hammer & FP/frame until the shot.

I've caught a lot of flak for saying this, but I've cocked the hammer then let it down to half-cock.

When a shot presents itself I press the trigger lightly and cock the hammer to full cock, then release the trigger. I don't use a tree stand, and there is very little likelihood I'll drop my gun.

I leave the hammer down until I see game. I always figure if I don't get that animal, it's because somebody else needs the meat more than I do.
