New Express Question

I recently bought a new 870 Express 12 gage. I took it to the dove opener this year, and it was the first time I had run some shells through it. My question is that on 3 or 4 occasions, i couldn't eject the shell after I had shot (I lost out on a bird because of it). I had to stop, and really force it to eject. I was using Federal shells. Is this because the gun is new, or is there some other problem?

I also have a 870 express the more I shot it the smoother the action got. It was very stiff at first clean lube and shoot proably have about 800 rounds thru it now good luck. skeet are not hard to break just easy to miss. R

Several people have reported the same thing with new Express guns.

First, field strip the gun per the owner's manual and give it a good cleaning to remove the factory preservative lube.
Re-lube with your favorite lube or a good lube like CLP Breakfree or Rem-Oil.

Clean the chamber THOROUGHLY.
Many problem guns stop making trouble as soon as the chamber is scrubbed out and all the factory lube is removed.

Modern shotguns have problems with build-up of fouling and plastic from the shot shells.
Many shotgunners buy a special shotgun chamber cleaning brush specifically to make sure the chamber is clean.

While the chamber is clean, check around the mouth of the chamber for any burrs or sharp edges that might be causing the fired and expanded shell to stick.
You can use some VERY fine abrasive cloth to lightly polish off any burrs or imperfections.

Last, try a better grade of shells.
A major problem in shotguns today is cheaper shells failing to extract.
