New Eotech Holographic sight not working properly?

I just bought a new Eotech ESPX2 sight for my AR-15 and my understanding is that the center dot is supposed to be a single point. However, my center "dot" is more similar to a tight cluster of seven dots with one bright dot. Is this the way it's supposed to be, or do I have a faulty unit?

Ridge Runner, I do not believe so... I have had laser corrective surgery about 10 years ago. My optometrist has not suggested that I have one.

I have a couple of Eotech sights and I notice the same thing.

Keeping the brightness as low as you can see helps reduce the "blooming" you can see.

Another thing I found is that I only see one dot without my glasses. I have pretty much determined I am seeing other dots due to reflection on the front and rear surfaces of my glasses.

I talked to my eye doctor about it and brought one of the sights for her to look at. We put an anti reflective coating on the front surface of my glasses and the problem is much diminished.

Not a perfect solution but better than doing nothing.

Hope this helps.

I'll have some other people look through the sight. I don't wear glasses when I'm not shooting, and I looked through the sight with no glasses too, so it's not reflection. Good thoughts...

In trying to determine the problem, do you have the same problem with anyother red-dot sight or only this one??? Is there a sheet of protective film over the glass to keep it from getting scratched?

EO's are Holographic sights. What you describe sounds pretty normal to me in that you likely have the intensity cranked. They are not laser sights, so to speak, they are projected sights which may be different than what you are expecting if you were thinking it was a "red dot".

Move it further down the rail. My aimpoint micro H-1 dot looks like a red splat on a lens if the intensity is mid level and it's too close your eye. I moved mine up as far as i could without putting it on my quad rail and now it focuses perfect.

I have the Aimpoint as well as the Eotech. You will see the same thing on both.

I see multiple dots with my glasses. One dot is slightly brighter and I zero with that dot.

For man size targets, it is no problem and I would not use one of these for any kind of precision shooting. They work just fine for banging the 300 yard gong and popper.

I would use something else shooting groups.

Well, I think that's helpful... And too late to trade it in on an Aimpoint TexasJim. Apology accepted.

I didn't think there was a problem until I read the manual, and the destructions said that there should be a single dot. It's not exactly a "single dot" but it's certainly a piece of cake to use and very rapid target acquisition. I just wanted to make sure what I'm seeing is correct, and that I don't need an eye appointment or a new sight.

I asked my wife to look through the sight and tell me what she saw, and she described it exactly as the manual describes it, but when I drew it on paper to clarify, she pointed to the one I made with dots rather than solid lines.

I have determined that one of the following is true:
1. The sight works perfectly
2. My wife and I both need an eye appointment
3. My wife and I don't communicate well.
4. All of the above

I'll keep you posted!

Hibby,
I just checked my EoTech on my AR. If I look through it without my glasses (I have astigmatism - among other issues) I see a group of dots (outer ring distorts as well). With my glasses on I see a crisp single dot in the center and a coherent circle for the outer ring. I also checked my Burris Fast Fire II red dot... same affect without my glasses, the dot is distorted resembling multiple dots as opposed to a single dot with my glasses... appears to be your eyes...

Thanks Ken! You've ruined my day. It would have been easier if the sight was faulty, rather than my sight.

The "multiple" dots you are seeing is just distortion. Maybe if EOTECH will come out with an EOTECH HD one of these days, there won't be so many complaints.

Actually, with any red dot, you are gonna get some distortion from the light source.
I believe Trijicon's are a lot clearer.

11 oz on a rifle for a sight...

my god, the Leopuled Delta point only weights .6 oz, or 18 little grams.

and it is about 200 bucks less expensive.
