New England Arms Rifle for boy??

A friend of mine is looking for a "first deer rifle" for his 10 yoa boy. He's small stature. I found a New England Arms, single shot, youth rifle, in .243, for $229.00 NIB. Can anyone tell me about this rifle? Would it be a good one? Was I right about getting a .243 for the boy? Thanks in advance.
 
Misunderstood subject line...

I have two wonderful daughters, and I thought you were looking to trade a rifle for a boy. I thought it might be better odds than having a third kid to get a son.

IMHO, the NEF rifles are one of the best bargains for the price of any rifle going. Most are decently accurate and all are very reasonably priced. I've never heard of anyone having trouble with one, several of my friends have them and shoot them regularly.

I have one in .22 Hornet and have no complaints. New England Firearms has a whole lot of extra barrels, stocks and accessories for the NEF rifles and shotguns and you can get info sent to you by calling them at 978-632-9393. MWT
