The original H&R went out of business quite a few years ago, bankrupted by a lawsuit. A company called H&R1871 took over their designs and made copies of some of the H&R line; NEF succeeded H&R1871. At present, both trade names are owned by Marlin, and H&R1871 is making shotguns and rifles, but no handguns.
You can look at the gun shows and stores for a used H&R, but I honestly think you would be better off with a used gun like a Ruger Single Six or a S&W K-22 if you want a revolver or a Ruger Standard Model if you want an autoloader. I recognize that H&R sold a lot of guns, and some were not bad, but I had to fix a bunch of them and was never impressed with their reliability, not to mention trigger pulls and overall quality.
