New "Drop In" Barrel for my P13-45

My Para Ordnance P13-45 is about 5 years old and I'm considering replacing the barrel with an Ed Brown "match grade drop-in" barrel. Brown Products appears to be a top-shelf product and generously provided me with information indicating that little or no "fitting" would be required. I'd like to know if anyone else had used this item and their experience. I simply want to remove some of the "slop" and improve the accuracy but am not interested in sending it into a gunsmith for extensive work. A competition shooter whose opinion I respect said to forget it and only have barrels seated by a gunsmith. Brown indicates it is easlily done. Whose opinion should I consider?
Any info will be appreciated.

I also own a P-13. I asked a similar question of a gunsmith I respect. He looked at my pistol, and showed me the bluing wear pattern on the forward section of the barrel. It's criss-crossed like a chain-link fence because the barrel doesn't lock up consistently into the bushing. His point: most economical accuracy improvement would be a tighter-fitting barrel bushing. If you're not strictly concerned with barrel wear, a fitted bushing may do the trick. OTOH, I think my pistol is more reliable for it. :D

I have a P13 also which has close to 15,000 rounds through it.The factory barrel is fine as long as you have not worn it out.I shoot only lead through mine so the wear is minimal and the accuracy is as good if not better now than when new .The first thing my gunsmith said when i asked about a match grade barrel was basically say with a Para you dont need it the factory barrel is fine !!the only items ive really replaced on the gun are from small parts breakagelike at 10,000 the front barrel bushing went and a short time later the extractor gave up the ghost. You would be wise to spend your money elsewhere like on sights or a trigger job even the ed brown beavertail but the barrel would not really give you something you can see unless you really shot out your old one or you just happen to have a ransom rest in the backyard.Great choice on the gun though , I have had just about all the para`s at one time or another cept for the P10 ,but the 13 is one i`ll never part with and have been thinking of retiring my old one for a new one anyway.

I appreciate you both responding to my post. Killer, if fact I've had a King trigger installed at 4.2 lbs, and have Millett sights installed, too. Also have a Smith and Alexander Grip Safety installed and finally, Pearce grips. I have a fairly large hand and I like to be able to really "hold" this gun when I shoot. When I hold the P13, now, the tip of my thumb just touches the tip of my third finger and the Pearce grip places my fingers in precisely the same place each time I pick it up. I've decided to leave well enough alone and concentrate other projects. I really love this gun, even more than the Beretta 96, 40 cal. It is more powerful but still much lighter and smaller than the Beretta.
Thanks, again, guys.

Rome, This is what TomJ had to say on my board.
"Just finished fitting a Briley Mfg. Clark/Para ramped 10mm BBl to a gov't frame (soon to be commander length like the pics below - my G-friends gun) and they are not only close to written specs for machining, they're DEAD NUTS (whatever that means?) ON! I just machined the ramp like any Clark/Para ramp, using the specs for their barrel, and presto, it actually fits up just like buttah! The barrel dims measure EXACTLY what the paper work says. I also have a .40 S&W barrel from them, fits like every other Clark/Para ramp bbl in every other Para ramped frame, EXCEPT Bar-Sto, which doesn't match ANY Clark/Para ramp! Anyway, just had to give them a thumbs up, will let all know what accuracy is like when I get to that point (hope it matches or exceeds Bar-Sto accuracy!)"
An Ed Brown beaver tail would be of benefit also with a FITTED Match barrel bushing.

IMHO, if you go through the expense of a new barrel have it fitted by a pro..........
