"New" Dan Wesson Valor

I've been bitten by the 1911 bug pretty bad here of late. I came close to buying a new Dan Wesson a couple times, just couldn't pull the trigger.

Well as luck would have it I ran into a slightly used Valor a couple weeks ago. Traded 2 for 1. All told Ive got about $1000 in it.

Finally got to the range yesterday. She shoots nice. Really good trigger only one malfunction in 100 rds. (Didn't go into battery). Possibly ammo related. Not sure. Maybe it's not broken in yet.

What I learned was: I do not need a $1500 pistol. I'm glad I didn't buy a brand new gun. I have no complaints about it. I'm just not good enough to tell the difference in a semi custom gun and a run of the mill Colt.

Ymmv. Sorry no pics. I've been on here for at least a year and still can't figure it out.

congrats on your DW purchase

FWIW the new DW and Colts run and feel very nice..very close to those semi customs you mentioned(IMHO). enjoy the gun and the savings--put it toward some ammo and range time

I also bought my DW Valor used, this is the best gun I own.

Mine is Black Duty Coat and it has the original Novak-style rear sight.

Congrats! I own a Valor and some other Dan Wessons as well. The Valor is a fine gun. On the FTRB keep in mind that most 1911s like liberal lubrication. It may take 300 rounds or so to break in the pistol.

That's what I figured KYJim. I'm no stranger to 1911s this is just the 1st really pricey(for me) 1911 I've ever had. Also I am running a new lube on this pistol. I usually use Hoppes lubricating oil or tw25 grease. I'm trying out a new bottle of Lucas gun oil. Seemed to work ok. The jury is still out.

All in all it was a good day at the range. Ran 100 rds through the Valor and 160 rds through my AR 15. Most rounds of centerfire I've shot in one day I think.

Lucas oil

I just bought a SIG P290 and it has been a long time since I've seen a gun come that well oiled from the factory.

It also came with a small tube of Lucas gun oil and a sales brochure for that oil.

This tells me that SIG thinks highly of it. Which tells me that it has been though some sort of a rigorous selection process. At least more of one than Billy Bob's Slickish Lube and Fire Starter has.

Good one Bart. Yeah I've decided to make this my test gun for the Lucas oil. Currently it's the only gun I've used it on. But if I like it I'll start using it on the others too.
