New Daly 20 gauge malfunction?

My partner recently bought a new Charles Daly 20 gauge (Advantage Timber). It hasn't been fired yet, we've been getting her started on a .22 rifle, but I've been playing with it a bit. I haven't been happy with the action - it doesn't seem smooth enough - and I am not at all happy with the magazine. The spring seems way too overpowered. In other words it's just damn hard to load.
Long story short - I just got a couple of A-Zoom dummy rounds and ran them through the gun this evening. When cycling the action it jams because both dummy shells are released from the magazine at the same time - one is chambered and the other is floating around in the receiver. Not a good thing.
Also, in looking closely at the dummy rounds after just one or two cycles, they are not just dinged but actually cut on the bases of the shells. On each there is a deep (1/16th ") sharp indentation on the base.
Anyone have any ideas about what might be going on here?
Thanks!
