I wanted the CZ 75 intially but my spock side took over and I realized in needed a wear under the dark suit, very close range, keep in the paper-thin wall hotel room CCW.

I got a CZ 83 .380 for $249.00 NIB. I am planning on stoking it with 102 Grain Golden Sabers.

If anyone has experience with this weapon, please give me feedback and guidance be it good, bad or indifferent.

Thanks

The CZ-83 is the King of the Hill as far as .380ACP pistols go. It has good sights, a good DA trigger, a decocker, inexpensive 13-round preban mags, it's accurate, slim, and very reliable. Kind of like a cross between a Walther PP, a Makarov, and a Browning BDA, taking the best features from each.

I think the CZ-83 is a very underrated, high quality pistol. It's hard to do any better if you have your mind set on a .380.

I shot an 83 once. I really liked it. A lot! For a small gun its got pretty nice grips. It shot really nicely. Nice aquisition and nice price!

Hello. Though not the smallest, I much prefer the CZ83 to any other .380 made. They're accurate and reliable with almost any bullet shape. To me they're kind of like getting a Berretta M84 for a bit more than a Makarov.

Best.

Oh god...here I go!

You did it...got the best .380 on the market. It is accurate...very accurate. Holds 13 rnds with the cz82 mags. Is balanced and a natural point and shoot gun! It will feed any .380 ammo you dare put into it and keep going! The accuracy doesnt change with different ammo...out to + 25 yards. Its trigger is what other d/a pistols hope to have someday. Has good factory 3 dot sights..and doesnt have a decocker. It can be carried cocked and locked or hammer down the old fashioned way. I carry my 83 and like it ALOT! Its one of the best guns I own and trust it with my life, literally. Let everyone know how YOU like it...I will enjoy hearing about it..shoot well

I've had my CZ 83 for over a year and.......

have put every brand of ammo through it I could find. Good stuff, not so good stuff, and really bad, cheap stuff. Never had a problem. Ever! Keep it clean. You'll love it!

I have one purchased used - an Israeli police trade in.

All the above - good trigger, sights, hi-capacity mags available, built like a truck, etc.

But - for carry, this is a big .380 pistol. I have a 380 Colt Mustang that I use for very discreet carry that feels like it is 1/2 the size. My 3" Kimber .45ACP carries easier than the CZ 83.

Not knocking the gun at all, but for the caliber it is large.

Kevinch, your quote about opportunity being missed is attributed to Thomas Edison, I believe, not A. Einstein.

I've got the 83, I think, in .32acp and reallly like the little gun. It hides well and is very accurate. For self defense or combat accuracy it is right on the money. The .32 allows for very fast follow up shots.

Best of luck with the .380.

I just picked up a CZ83 at a local gun show yesterday. It feels very nice in my hands. Good double action pull. Not too heavy and fairly smooth. Good single action pull. Got it at a great price - $200.00 NIB. Only problem is, my wife took the opportunity to make it my Christmas present, so I can't shoot it for a while.

Good for you John. The guy I bought this from also goes to Gun Shows and is cheaper there but Mr. Impulse came by and paid a visit to my wallet. ;)

Will, $ 250.00 is still a very good price. I usually see them up around $ 380.00 or so. I would have jump on it for $250.00 myself. I just got lucky, for a change....

$ 380.00 ? wow...I got my 83 for just over $ 200.00 NIB.. If you look around the net, shops and shows..you can find them for a very nice price. I keep seeing an 83..nothing really rare..blue, .380 w/ 2 mags , on a "sells guns" site..listed at $ 485.00...speechless. shoot well and enjoy your guns...

If you want a sweeeeeeeet shooter. You can get a surplus cz 83
with the old style round trigger housing ..and a hi cap mag for around 200.00$ ..rumored to have a better trigger than most other 83's. Do I need another one? hmmmmmmm
www.empirearms.com ..and the mag is a 13 rnd capacity..+1
shoot well

Eric, you hit the nail on the head -- my older CZ83 ('88 vintage) is a better pistol than my new model. Same exact gun, but the trigger is soo smooth (well broken in), I still am amazed. I also like the rounded trigger guard.

I'd love to get a CZ83 in 9mm Makarov. I am trying to work up some interest so CZUSA can import a shipment for us.

Here's my surplus CZ83 in .380 next to a CZ50 .32 cal.:

Honest Injun: I like the feel of pistols in the CZ83/Mak range and as I get older that is more important than trying to find the wunder cartridge.
