New Colt XSE lightweight commander

I just brought home a new Colt lightweight commander, immediately cleaned it and took it to the backyard range.

Shot a hundred of my reloads and Precision made HP's. This new gun didn't bobble once. I shot half thru the colt mag that came with it and the other half thru a Wilson mag I got at the same time.

Accuracy was right on target, the gun was sighted in well. I have steered away from Colt for quite some time because of quality issues, but I sure do like this new commander.

Gotta go now

I see how you are, rblack...you tease us with a range report but do you post any pictures? no you don't.

Don't you love us anymore?

:p

I have carried a stainless Series 80 Colt Combat Commander for several years as a Leo duty weapon and it has been a fantastic gun. The only problems that I had was when I put a full length guide rod in it with shock buffs and that really fouled up what was a reliable weapon. I took the shock buffs out and my relieable duty pistol was back. Do not use a shock buff in any handgun that your life depends on...

Wow - beautiful Colt & nice job at the photo to boot. Is this a recent production? I thought Colt was virtually out of the commercial pistol market. Thanks ...

I can't take credit for the picture, but the Colt is a new production. I'll probably put another hundred rds thru it again today.

Rod,

That is a beautiful pistol! How much does it weigh? Also, if you put another hundred rounds through her today, how did it go?

Kentucky Rifle,

I'm not sure how much it weighs, but I can tell you there seems to be a world of difference between it and the steel frame version.

I didn't get a chance to shoot it today as I ended up back at the gun shop and bought a limited edition Ruger Blackhawk in stainless with an unfluted cylinder with engraving and a Bisley grip.

This has been a very nice weekend.

dewey,

Thanks for the info on the weight.

I don't have a trigger pull scale, but I would guess it to be somewhere around 5 lbs. with little to no creep and a very crisp break.

Rod,

I just hate it when a website degrades to less than desirable. (Like Colt's.) I can't get the dimensions of your new pistol. How long is the barrel? It's a little shorter than a "regular" 1911, right?

Thanks,

KR

Kentucky Rifle,

Yes it is a little shorter. The full size gov't model has a 5 inch barrel while the commander has a 4.25 inch barrel.

Although I have 2 full size 1911's, I much prefer the commander size.

HEY ROD !

Go to auctionarms.com, plug in colt commander in 'Search' line and enter. There are some FS and gunfinder.com or gunbroker.com usually lists complete specs in the item description. Best.......dewey

Purty!

Looks nice!

How's the Series 80 trigger nowadays? That's the main reason I've stayed with Caspians, ever since they went to the extra monkey-motion in the 1911's lockwork. Has it been smoothed up any?
