Has anyone here tried one of the grossly expensive Colt M1911A1's? Not sure if they've reached the market yet. Just read Ayoob's report in the newest, Combat Handguns.
I like the wide- spur hammer, like the earlier M1911A1's had; don't know if the non-slip surfaces are checkered or grooved.
Nearly a thousand bucks sounds like a lot for a gun we used to buy in the 1960's as surplus for about forty bucks... but it does look to be one of the nicer Colts in recent times.
Has anyone here tried the basic Springfield GI-equivalent gun, which costs maybe half the price of the new Colt? Did you like it? How does it shoot? Most of the Springfield coverage is about their enhanced guns. I'd be happy with the basic item, if it shot well and was well made.
