ive been reading about 1911s for monthes now...im looking for a good bang for the buck one, dont think ill ever see a norinco or sistema- kimbers are too much$ i dont want to gamble with a CD, and arent convinced with what i hear about SA, so...the new 1991? comments?

Comments, lets see:

the new 1991s/series 80s are very well made, on forged frames with forged slides and investment cast internals. The new Series 80 rollmarks look really, really good IMO. Acuracy is very good, as is the fit. The sights suck. The rubber grips, well they suck too. If it were me I'd replace the grips, sights and put a nice Ed Brown grip safety on it and maybe a triggerjob. None of that is really neccessary though, just my own preference.

Doesn't a Kimber go for about $550-$600? And the Charles Daly at about $350? I'm not sure there is anything in between. Springfield Armory is a bit less than a Kimber. What is it that you don't like about Springfield?

The Colt 1991A1 .45 is a fine pistol. I bought my first one for $369. Those days are long gone! Many folks choose to replace the plastic parts that are used in the pistol but, it will work fine as a stock pistol. With that one particular pistol, I didn't make any adjustments whatsoever. It has been very reliable and accurate.

(I paid 379. for my new Series 80! in 84)

I think you made a good choice with the new Colt. In addition to whats already been listed, new sights etc., I'd have an extended ejector installed also. For positive ejection. Unless of course its already in there, which I doubt but really dont know.

Happy shooting!

thanks brian, ur info helped, as for everyone else- im pretty sure colts quality has been up and down thats why im asking about the NEW 1991s with the new rolemark- as for kimbers..well i think they run about 700 here- i liked the idea of having a colt- but if the colt is close in price to the kimber then yea, id get one. as for SA, i dont think i want the internal lock, and yes i know i oculd find one without it, but i just dont seem to read constant great revieews about them

1991A1

Saw my first 1991A1 government model with the new roll marks today. Looked very nice. Almost reached to the wallet, then remembered I didn't have $529 in it. How does that price sound? The one oddity I couldn't figure out was this one had walnut grips on it and the slide sides were dull polished blue. Is this correct? According to the Colt website, they are matte finish with plastic grips??? A features for 2002?

Anyone had any expereince with Charles Daly's....the new enhanced versions? They "look" pretty nice too.

Jakester, that price was fairly good. The grips are indeed supposed to be rubber, but maybe somebody at the gun shop decided to jazz it up a bit. The slide and frame flats are polished on the latest ones, but several thousand "transition" guns with a polished slide and matte frame were made beforehand.

I just picked up an XSE Commander today, stopped at the range and put 100 rounds through it on the way home. Not a hiccup.

The sights do suck, I'm not hip to the grips, and the trigger does this annoying rattle thing. My salvation: it's a 1911! Novak night sights, a trigger tweak, maybe an extended safety, and a Hogue wraparound, and I'm good to go. It's already super accurate.
