CNN, www.CNN.com reporter Wayne Drash put out a detailed item about Colt Defense & the workers(670) of the West Hartford CT plant.
It's a interesting read to get more insight from the factory workers of America's gun valley.

Not a bad article. It reflects well the CT Gov's attitude on firearms.

The only thing in that article that caused my hackles to raise is the 90% favor universal background checks. That is simply not true. I suppose we will continue to read about a biased survey results for the next 20 years when politicians or writers want to make their point that universal background checks are strongly favored by the American public.
 
Colt Python; P2000 series...

I considered the CNN article on Colt Defense to be fair & even-handed.
What I was curious to know is why Colt no longer produces the highly rated Python .357magnum line or any concealed carry size D frame .38spl revolvers.

My guess would be the labor intensive production & needed skills kept Colt execs from marketing the DA revolvers like the 1980s/1990s; The Python, The .44 Anaconda(which is still around at gun shows) and the med-range King Cobra.
The awful Colt P2000 9x19mm showed that Colt wasn't really ready for the LE/armed citizen pistol market. If you do not recall, the P2000 was a Colt DA only type pistol that can quickly convert from a duty size to a compact off duty size. :rolleyes:
The 1911a1 frame type "Double Eagle" didn't ring any bells for US gunners either. It was a huge DA/SA type .45acp meant to compete with the S&W 4506 and the more ideal SIG P220 or BDA.

I was just reading something about that clyde not to long ago. It said something about the cost of building them was getting too high.
 
Colt Python --
short version -- aging equipment, aging workers who could build them, out-dated design in that it required a lot of hand labor, demand not high enough

shorter version -- money

Post 8 sounds about right.
Not to get political but I'd heard Colt & the factory workers in Hartford had a huge labor dispute a few years ago which caused a major shake up in the small arms production.

Ending the Colt Python & Anaconda DA revolvers was a part of the fall out.
Author & tactics instructor Massad Ayoob put out a article or two on the plant & how the Detective line, Python, King Cobra, etc were no longer manufactured by Colt workers.

FWIW, Colt Defense opened a small facility in central Florida near Orlando. :)
Florida is a "right to work" state.

I'd be curious to know if Colt would ever return to making any Pythons or DA revolvers. They could also sell the production rights & specs to a different firm that could maintain the the high QC standards.

I was pleasantly surprised by the article, that's for sure

Sounds like sitting down with a responsible, CEO of a fire-arms company brought some sense to the writer. "Some".
 
The article, while being relatively balanced, did seem to lean towards the anti side of things. He brought up the 90% poll and also added a few undertones of being displeased with Colt for not acting.
