New Christmas Purchase

I wanted to post this a little sooner, but unfortunately my internet provider decided that it was more fun to screw my service up royally and give me a run around for a while... I have been waiting patiently to finally share this so I am pretty happy to finally be able to tell the world.

My entire life, since I even knew what a handgun was, there has been ONE gun that I have wanted more than anything. I am happy to finally say that the stars aligned...

I wanted something simple, modern, and preferably Colt. When I came across this it pretty much checked every box I wanted so I knew I had to have it.

The only complaint I have is that I really didn't want a full length guide rod but I wasn't against it either so when I saw this on sale right after I had gotten my Christmas bonus and a new "untested" credit card... well, I mean the universe was kind of speaking to me so who am I to ignore it?

Now I just need to go shooting...

Also, there is zero wear on the firearm. I realized it looks like there is a little on the slide in the images. They were quickies.

Very nice, she's a beauty for sure. And, the FLGR issue is easy to solve should you choose to. You can get a standard guide rod and plug from Brownell's for just a few bucks. I hated the two piece FLGR in my Springfield Loaded and got some nice replacment parts for that.

Nice gun sir, i recommend the ed-brown Military style recoil spring plug and guide rod.
i installed this on my springfield after being tired of needing a tool to field strip the pistol.

That gun should last you and whomever you pass it down to, a long time. Enjoy

I have the same Combat Elite - purchased new in 2010 from Wildalaska.

20,000 rounds later it is still running perfectly, and is my go to 1911 for trips to the range.

The FLGR is a non issue.

Nicely done, you have excellent taste.

Thanks everyone. I love it.

The FLGR is a minor annoyance. That plug is rough on the fingers but I do have a bushing wrench on my keychain so it's not a huge issue really. My keys also have my bottle opener on them so I am in trouble in more ways than one if I lose them anyway haha.

The only other thing I may do is swap out the front sight with a gold bead or tritium. I live really close to NOVAK so could easily just have them do it if I wanted that done. Honestly may just leave it 100% stock too.

I've heard colt magazines are pretty good overall. Hopefully I don't really need to swap those out. I had no idea 1911 mags cost so much. I'm coming from a Glock and AR-15 point of view. I was pretty used to dirt cheap mags lol

In my considerable experience with the 1911, I have found Chip McCormick mags to be great...and they can be had for about $23.

These newer colt magazines arent anything special, and actually i had ine cause several malfunctions in my pistol, until the mags broke in

These have a C on them which I believe means they are made by checkmate. 8 rounders. I have read that loading them with 7 usually helps with feeding issues until they are broken in a little. I guess the best way to find out is to grab a few boxes of ammo and hit the range lol

That is one beautiful 1911 right there! I personally don't like FLGR's but that is totally up to you.

You did good and I like the fact that there is no rail.

Thank you. I definitely don't like rails on 1911s. I have a Glock with a rail if I ever care for a rail mounted attachment. I like to keep the 1911 looking somewhat classic. Also it's big enough that I don't feel the need to make it any more difficult to conceal or find a holster for lol

Now that's a sweet firearm! Enjoy! You picked a great choice. It should not "rattle" when shaken, and the draw on the trigger should be short.

Thank you, and yeah it seems simple to swap out but I doubt it'll be much of an issue with me. If it is it does seem like one of the very few parts that easily swap out without issue. The mainspring housing is plastic as well. From a look perspective I'd prefer it be stainless but that is a minor thing as well. Maybe someday I will swap it.

FLGR

I noticed in this thread several posters have mentioned replacing the FLGR. what are the options. I have a Colt Government 1911 with a FLGR and have thought of doing this.

What are the options?
