New CCI Quiet 22 Long Rifle 22 Ammo

Has anyone had the occasion to try the new CCI Quiet 22LR ammo yet? It has been difficult to find till today...just bought a couple boxes at Walmart for $7.99 for a box of 50. That is a little higher than I expected, and I was curious if anyone has spent some range time checking functioning, accuracy, and whether it lives up to the advertised reduction in round report (sound).

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has tried the new offering from CCI, and if it ejects from an auto while chambering the next round.

I used it in a bolt action rifle, not a semi. It was quiet enough I took my ear plugs out. It seemed accurate enough but I was just plinking.

If you use a long barreled bolt action 22LR as I do I have shot 22 CB ammo which sounds like an air gun. Looks like the same thing as CB but called "Quite". Not enough power to eject in a semi-auto. Fun to shoot in the back yard short distances with no wind.

I don't like to use RN as it can easily be deflected or richochet.
The sub-sonic HP would be better. I've been using RWS sub-sonic hp for years , quiet ,accurate, and effective.

CCIs most interesting 22 is the SGB flat point .That's far more potent than you would ever think. I've heard great reports in using it on coyotes ,hyenas, baboons !!

Thanks for the input....anyone have a good source for CCI standard velocity? Seems like a hard to find CCi and that os what my S&W likes best.

I back ordered some from Midway about a month ago. They were anticipating getting some in September. Back order is probably the safest way to go.

I won't be trying any CCI for that price...

I am paying well under $4/50 locally for the Aquila Super Colibris...

500fps for a 20gr pill...I use them in a Winchester 1906 pump, and a JC Higgins Model 36 semi-auto as a 'straight pull'...Quiet, and deadly on rodents in the garden to 50 yards...

Too loud for me out of a revolver, but sound like a BB Gun out of a rifle...

And they are much louder than the CCI Quiet. CCI quiet out of my 18.5 inch barrel Ruger sounds like a pellet rifle. The RWS subsonics sound like a .22lr- (much louder).

I get CCI Quiet at my local gunshow for 35 dollars a brick.
Super Colibri are very much inaccurate at ranges beyond 15 yards in my experience. I've chronographed them an have gotten extreme variations in velocities. The Colibri's short bullet also doesn't properly engage with the rifling compared to the Quiet's full length 40 grain RN. CCI Quiet are very much in a different realm compared to to the Colibri ammo.

In my opinion the Quiets are a specialty round made more for bolt action rifles with a long barrel. If ya shoot it out of any barrel under 18.5 inches, it will be somewhat louder than intended. If ya shoot it out of a 21 + inch barrel, its gonna be very quiet.

I shoot them out of my 10/22 carbine 18.5 inch and it carries the noise levels of a high-power pellet rifle,..but it's low enough that hearing protection isn't required. Still,.. if ur expecting what CCI advertised, than 21 + inch barrel length is ideal. They won't cycle semi autos however...

I've killed a few squirrels and a Jack rabbit up north. The squirrels were no further than 25-30 yards, but one shot to the head is all it takes, and they drop like a stone. The rabbit took a follow up shot.

Anything at or under 40 yards is what I would recommend for rabbit size game. If attainable,- head shots are recommended. It hits hard with-in this distance. And if ya have a long barreled bolt action, your in for a nice session with out disturbing others:D The impact sound is often louder than the shot!

considering accuracy I've accomplished under an inch at 30 yards. At 50, the groups are approaching more on the side of 2 inches,..- thats atleast with my semi auto carbine. I've read reviews that state much better accuracy levels for bolt actions. Still how ever the power levels and accuracy potential make for a day and night difference compared to the Super Colibri ammo! Though, ...after 60 rounds ya can expect to get high levels of fouling from CCI Quiets.

I bought a box and shot them out of my rifle. Here's a 5 shot group at 50 yards. It's way more accurate than CB or Colibri ammo in my experience.

bought a brick on gunbroker--i've seen some still listed. won't eject on a ruger mark 3 pistol. shot some through my 16 inch contender--not very loud. also shot through a can on the contender--click! accuracy ok for 25yds--minute of pest head. :D

For $8 a box, I think I'll pass on this one.

Ur local gunshow should carry them for 35-40 dollars per brick (500).

My rifles would not shoot the Super Colibris either...

So I cleaned them...

My rifle would not get any thing under 3.5 inches at 40 yards with the Super Colibris,... even when clean.:(

My typical High velocity groups for regular CCI Blazers an mini mags average just under an inch at 50 yards.:)

Last week, I tried CCI Quiet and Segmented ammo and Aguila 38 and 40 gr subsonic in my supressed 10-22.

The Quiet ammo gave me constant failures to eject and the worst accuracy of any of the loads. The other three all functioned 100% and produced groups under an inch (with a 1X dot sight) at 50 yds. I have a Nikon 2-7X scope ordered and I'm sure the groups will improve.

CCI Quiet also failed to function in a buddy's Marlin semi-auto.

I chronographed the loads.

CCI Quiet
Ave 695 fps, ES 79 (!) fps, SD 36. Very inconsistant.

CCI 40gr Segmented
Ave 1031, ES 42, SD 16.6.

Aguila Superextra 36gr HP
Ave 1041, ES 32, SD 13.1.

Aguila Superextra 40gr Solid
Ave 998, ES 21, SD 8.7.

"Quiet," "CB", "Colibri," etc. are meant to be used as quiet ammunition in unsupressed rifles. They are not designed to operate semiauto actions.
Standard velocity .22 lr is fine for supressed guns, as you can see from your testing. Why would you expect it to function your rifle?

Quiets aren't able to cycle any semi auto. They were meant for long barrel(21+ inch) Bolt action rifles.

For my use though I wouldn't say they were terrible in accuracy. I consistently achieved groups under an inch at 30 yards with my 10/22 carbine( 18.5 inch barrel). I've read reviews that state small groupings at 50 yards with bolt action rifles, but I'm somewhat unsure.
At 50, they opened up closer to 2 inches and beyond for me.

At a full 40 grains,- it's still the hardest hitting low decipal round I've found for small game 40 yards and under. The sound of the bullet thwacking against the head of the first squirrel I took down took me by suprise! sounded like minature grenade had set off.

I didn't expect them to work. Every thread I read about them said the same thing and it's this:
Quiets aren't able to cycle any semi auto. They were meant for long barrel(21+ inch) Bolt action rifles.
I included the results for information only. But they shoot reasonably well in my gradeschool-kid size Colt bolt action single shot rifle with a 16" barrel.

CCI states the fact that this ammo won't cycle most semi-autos on their website and also on the box somewhere.

The picture I posted in post #12 of this thread was shot using a Winchester/Miroku 1885 "low wall" single shot with a 24 inch barrel using a 2-7X Leupold rimfire scope. The center of the tight cluster was about 4 inches below the point of aim at 50 yards in my rifle sighted in zero at 50 yards with Wolf MT standard velocity ammo. That flyer in the group may have been because I was shooting right next to someone with the loudest muzzle brake I have ever had the displeasure of shooting next to.
My single shot cycled just fine using this ammo. I'm sure pumps, lever actions, rolling blocks, break open, and revolvers will also.
