New Carry Gun - Kahr?

What is everyone's impression of the Kahr K-9 for carry. I really like the slim lines. I have carried a compact Kimber and a J frame Taurus. I thin 9mm that I can trust to work when called upon. I find the Kimber a little big in the summer and the wife has adopted the 38.

Thanks,

K9

I really like mine. It does not take the place of a "J" for all duties as it won't work in a pocket or ankle for me. OTOH, the qualities you name make it great carry gun with a lot more bullets than your snub nosed Taurus. I suggest that you treat it like a "big" gun. That means, carry with a good solid belt/holster. It should carry more easily than the Kimber then.

I love my P9. It is slim, lighweight and very accurate. It is great for carrying on hot summer days tucked iinto a pair of jean shorts under a t-shirt. I fired about 200 rounds through mine without a hitch.

I like the K9 also, but the MK9 is .5 inches smaller in heigth and length and it makes a BIG difference in concealment. If you are going to get a gun that small, why not go with the smaller (at the expense of one round)? I love my MK9.

I just got an MK40 and frankly I can't imagine a more comfortable carry gun (well except maybe a derringer or KelTec P32).

The small size and thin frame are excellent for concealment ... and the quality of the gun overall makes me feel confident it will function when needed.

Since I went from carrying a Steyr M40 (same size as a Glock 19/23) down to my Kahr I imagine the K40 (or in your case K9) would still be an excellent carry gun.

I think Kahr is one of the best carry guns made. Which gun you get is dictated by your intended carry method. If its IWB carry....go for the bigger guns. The grip is nicer to hold and shoot. Its also a good plinker with nights...actually quite accurate. For pocket carry or BUG the MK is the gun. For me it just depends on where it was going to be all of the time.
Shoot well

I've got a K9, and I absolutely LOVE it.

I don't carry it much, though, as I'm more a revolver kind of guy, so I carry a Model 042 S&W.

If I had to switch from revolver to semi-auto, the K9 would be my immediate and probably only choice.

Mine is accurate and seems well built for carry. I have smooth wood grips on mine to minimize printing on my shirts. The double action trigger on the Elite models is shorter, which will aid in your accuracy if you are not used to DAO.

I like my K9, but I usually carry a Kimber Compact. For pocket carry, the MK9 is a decent choice (but it is a bit on the heavy side).

I prefer a Sig P239. Light, slim, easy to shoot and rifle-like accuracy. And I KNOW that it's reliable.

I have P239 in .40. It is significantly larger than a K9. It is DA/SA which you either like or not -- I don't. Mine P239 is quite accurate. The high bore axis gives it a lot of muzzle rise (though that might be less of an issue in 9mm than .40). My P239 has been reliable. But so have my K9, K40, and MK9 -- no difference there. Personally, I find the P239 feels top heavy. The K9/K40 feel better in my hand. YMMV.

Lookin' for that elusice Kahr PM9....

If Kahr has ironed out it's polymer glitches, I'm going to buy one of the new MK9 clones: the PM9, which weighs in a 14 oz sans mag. If they're as good as advertised, Kahr will probably have to add another shift to keep up with the demand. The combination of almost P32 size with 9mm power is heady indeed.....

Here's my dilemna which I hope the PM9 can overcome:

P models are nice, but the extra weight in the K series helps dominate recoil and muzzle flip. Also, I want to pack as much power as I can in a small frame. So the K40 is my choice.

After seeing how incredibly awesome my wife's MK9 was, I bought a K40 sight unseen... too heavy, sold it, bought an MK40... a little lighter, but too small for IWB carry (my opinion only) So I found it a GOOD home, and bought a P9, had problems, Kahr swapped me for a P40....

After all that, for an IWB gun, although I do love my P40, and can't even feel it back there, and it does feel half way comfortable now that I put an A-Grip on it... I wish I had stayed with my very first choice and learned to live with the weight. IMHO, the Kahr K series is the most comfortable Sub-compact I've ever held..... Geez, it wasn't THAT heavy, it was just heavy for it's size.

So I second the K40 vote... I prefer that little extra bang over 1 more round... The recoil in a K40 is amazingly light. P40's got a lot more kick.

But if the .40 is out of the question for you, then K9 it is.

The K9 is an absolutely fantastic carry gun. Try it in an Alessi WSDT IWB holster.
I really can't figure outthose who complain about the weight. It's not THAT heavy, and besides, the weight makes it a better shooter.
I love it. I love it even more than the HK P7M8 that I used to own.

pinetree, I can think of no better carry gun than a K9. Do I like them? I own an E9, K40, and just bought a new K9. Initially, I felt they weigh too much but with good leather it doesn't get much better. The K9 will fit in holsters designed for 1911A1 Officer Model pistols so you might not have to buy a new carry rig. I bought a new rig and then found the error of my ways. Regards, Richard

I concure completely with the above statements. I cannot think of a better handgun for carry than the K9. It was designed with this in mind and fills the role perfectly.
