New CA state flag (Humor)

As a 4th generation Californian, I am more than a little distressed at the foul political mire into which this once great state has sunk.

I also tend to not P&M or rant and rail on various forums, instead preferring to spend that time writing letters, etc.

But I'll tell ya... the pure apathy and ignorance of many folks in this state makes me want to tear my hair out.

This weekend I was more aggravated than usual.

Perhaps reading "Lost Rights", and then starting to read "Slouching Towards Gomorrah", all in one weekend, was not the wisest of decisions. I should have watched the last half of the Super Bowl. :)

Instead, I decided to redesign our state flag. That grizzly bear just doesn't cut it
any more.

Hey, thats pretty darn good and alas it is completely appropriate

Is Saranap still a real place? I thought it was just the name of the gas station (nice collection of pumps) commemorating a past location name.

Oh Cliff, let's make a midnight run up to Sacto and run that flag up the ol Capitol flagpole!!!!! Anyone else want to come with us?! :D

DC, sadly you are right--it is completely appropriate. :(

I love it!!

Fly one at the February rally in Sacramento, maybe try to present it to the governor -- GREAT visual media byte.

Yeah...sadly, that's what it should be. :(

Cliff, one thing.
I think It should read: "California Republik"
What do you think?
I feel for you, so keep up the fight!

To make it even better, shear the sheep.

Since that is what most governments do to the sheeple anyway.

That is outstanding! Need to link that with the Parable of the Sheep and get it out there for all in Sacramento to see! Great Job!

Glad you folks liked it. If I had a cloth version, there is nothing I would like better than to run it up the flag pole in Sacramento.

Sadly, I'm not sure that many people would 'get it'. :(

Guy Meredith - Saranap IS a real place. It refers to the unincorporated area of Walnut Creek that straddles the SE boundary of Lafayette and extending N a bit. In the early 1900's there was a railway station here named after the wife of the president of the San Ramon railroad - her name was Sarah Napthaly.
The area is still displayed as 'Saranap' on quite a few maps.

That gas station is pretty neat. :)

The gas station you are refering to wouldn't be the one on Olympic and Tice Valley by Rossmoor would it ? It used to be a Railroad stop I believe. I grew up in that neighborhood.

Cliff and MusclesMcGee,

That is the service station; probably the last one in California with real live people there to help you. I make a point of patronizing them if I need gas on the commute from San Ramon to Oakland/San Francisco for that reason and because I am a real sucker for historical things like the pumps.

I also like to take Tice Valley Road and San Ramon Valley Blvd to avoid the freeway. I actually enjoy driving down that rural appearing road at 35 mph with the moon roof open.

I am aware of the history as I had inquired on that of the manager of the station. I didn't realize that the name was still used for the area.

Oh yeah, my tortoise's vet is across the street at the Cottage Clinic.

You forgot to place the sheep behind barbed wire...I am sure that's coming soon enough over by the borders. Then again, I'd love to see DMZ around CA and some other pestholes.

Yea, its a nice area Guy. Somehow its managed to stay the same over the years unlike the rest of the East Bay. Then again, I'm sure Cliff could tell you how the whole area used to be acres of walnut trees.
Do you guys know of open spaces in the East Bay or Norcal where I could openly carry a gun ? I plan on doing some fishing this Spring and maybe a little plinking :) .

As a side note, the Lamorinda bike trail runs the course of the old rail line. It has the old stops posted along the way. I think it goes from Alamo all the way to Oakland. .

MusclesMcGee,

Lots of ranges, but I think Chris' flag tells the story on the open carry. There are a couple of hunting areas, though I would have to look that up. If you find any, let me know.

MusclesMcGee - To the best of my knowledge, the days of open carry in the EB are loooong gone.

I grew up in San Rafael (Marin County) and in the mid-60's it was never a problem. CA didn't used to be a vast sheeple grazing ground, but too many people moved here and brought their liberal baggage with them.

Geoff - funny you should mention the hammer and sickle. I DL'ed a USSR flag and was going to colorize and size the hammer and sickle appropriately. I decided not to. :)
