New Bulldog

Finally got off the fence and bought a Charter Arms .44 Bulldog. (I have three other Charter Arms guns.)

It is a new model with a 2.5 inch barrel and is stainless.

I took it immediately to the range to test it out. The gun worked just fine, and shot to point of aim (maybe a little low) with 200-grain bullets. I REALLY like the .44 special hollow points. Those things are the proverbial "flying ashtrays". The trigger on this gun was surprisingly decent.

I got the Charter because for size/weight to power ratio is awesome. The gun is light and carries great.

While at the range, I switched out the stock grips for some Pachmayr Compac grips that I had bought for my Mag Pug. They are a big improvement in both look and feel over the stock rubber.

Here is a picture of the gun still dirty from the range.

Very nice! glad to hear you had a good experience with it. A CA Bulldog Stainless is on my short list for 2013. I've wanted one since the old days of Charter Arms back in the 70's.
Your review might have just moved it to the top of my list. Above a Ruger LCR that I also have a yearning for.

Yep... There's just somethin' 'bout dem .44 Special Bulldogs that makes sense...

Everything.

Love mine.

(Like the Pachys...!)

I love the two I have. I had to file down a good bit of the front sight to get mine zeroed with 200 grain bullets.

Flying ashtrays?,,,

Flying ashtrays?

I laughed out loud,,,
I've never heard that one before.

Charter Arms pistols have an "iffy" reputation,,,
Older ones were good guns,,,
Then came a bad period when someone else owned them,,,
But now that new (original?) owners have the company they seem to be good guns again.

My lady friend has a 2" Undercover in .38,,,
And a 4" Pathfinder in .22 LR,,,
Both are new purchases.

Both pistols had hard gritty triggers at first,,,
But after about 500 rounds through each one they smoothed out.

Her 4" Pathfinder is inherently as accurate as my S&W Model 18,,,
She is getting good enough to challenge me at 25 yards.

Congrats on a gun that pleases you so well,,,
I'm happy that Charter Arms is finally getting the credit I believe they deserve.

Here's the gun cleaned up and loaded with JHP "flying ashtrays". :D

I'm normally a 9mm and .38 special guy, so these .44 special JHPs look absolutely cavernous to me. I love it.

Congrats... I do like mine too. Don't use it steady as I have .44Spec Single Actions for normal use... But the Bulldog makes it out once a month for some re-'familiarization' time. Kick is not that bad. I use 240g SWC bullets. Good CC revolver (what I use it for).

Congrats, mine is going on 30 years of age, stainless with bobbed hammer. Still tight and nice but slightly heavy trigger. I carried mine as a primary carry gun for over 20 years.
One suggestion, with factory stay in the 200 GR range and stay away from the 240.
Being a light weight gun, factory 240’s stresses the frame.
