New bulk pack? @ walmart...

What brand was it? I'm reminded of the Remington 333 (I think it's remi, I always mix their ammo up with Winchester). It's the same as the 555 pack, which is 550 rounds for about $15 at Dicks, last time I bought it. I've been without a .22 for a while, so I haven't bought in a long time.

I don't know If I got a bad batch or what, but the past few boxes of bulk federal in the red box have been terrible. At least 1/4th of them have been complete duds. It sounds like a bb gun firing. CCI for now on for me. Even the Blazer Bulk 22 is ten times better than the federal.

White-box-with-black-stripe is the Federal AutoMatch "target grade performance" ammo which is 325 rounds in a box.

My Remington Speedmaster and my Henry H001 levergun absolutely LOVE this ammo as do both of my Buckmark pistols. Strangely enough the groups open up if I use it with my Savage 64 (which is usually a decently accurate and non-finicky gun).

The blue-with-black-stripe Federal "Champion" has also been great in my guns.

On the other hand, I am also totally fed up with the Red-with-black-stripe Federal 550 bulk pack ammo. I also had a pretty high rate of failure to fire with that ammo and the sound/recoil is very inconsistent.

Think its a regional thing?
I've had 100% good luck the last few boxs (only been usin them instead of my faithfull CCI's lately)

I picked up a box of Remington 550 about 3wks ago at Walmart for $15. The kids and I have shot about 50 rounds in a Nylon 66 that I'm keeping for my sister. They've fired great so far.

Yeah, I've not seen a Federal Bulk Pack in the Wally-world near me, Federal Bulk Shotgun Shells, but not .22. Weird. I've found all of the Bulk Ammo to by REALLY dirty, the only .22 I've fired was a $3 box of 50, and I had no problems with it, except after two cylinders, my rounds wouldn't seat and I had to brush out the chambers, much worse than the Winchester 555. The 555 was cleaner than the Federal, but, I got about 10 duds in the box. My favorite .22 ammo, so far, has been Remington Yellow Jackets, it pops, is accurate and isn't too dirty. But, alas, I'm short a .22 now, so I have a box of Yellow Jackets and nothing to shoot them out of, but for $10 a box of 100, it's not exactly cheap.

Before the run on ammo, a 550 brick of federal 22LR was $9.88 at my Walmart. Just before the shortage it climbed to about $12.88.

Hopefully, manufacturers aren't trying to make the old 500 or 550 brick the new 333. They've tried that with everything from breakfast cereal to tuna fish, and many in the public only look at the price without really thinking.

You're absolutely correct. I've boycotted a couple of brands of consumer goods that I thought led the way in volume/weight reduction. Eventually, though, the competitors followed suit.

Now that I see you said they were Federal's I've seen them. I've never seen them at Walmart that I can remember, but I saw some at a friends house that he bought at Walmart. I actually might have seen them once. I've never tried them though as for some reason my .22 stovepipes every few rounds with the 550 round packs from Federal. It loves the Winchester Xperts and 333's though. Since it loves them I have just stuck with using them.

I wonder. I suppose I could have just had a bad box but by the time I crunched through all 550 (or what of them would fire) I was pretty damned annoyed. If I had realized what was happening sooner I would have kept the duds and sent the whole thing (along with the box) back to Federal with a "something's wrong here" letter. Alas, too late now.

Red box? I'm not familiar with that one, or is it brown or maybe brownish red? A 550 count Federal bulk box in my area is brown and they are total crap here. I've heard the blue box of 525(?) is better but I haven't tried those. In this area the Rem golden bullets in bulk seem to be the best for me. Even the Winchester X-perts are better than the Fed 550s and that's saying something. I have had about a 20% failure rate. My GSG-5 simply coughs rather than the normal report and I know not to even pull the trigger again. Rapid fire is out altogether, unless the aforementioned Remingtons are being used. BTW this is the Detroit area.

Its odd that newer fed bulk packs are having a high failure rate, the older ones ( anything made before the ammo buying craze ) are among my favorite plinking rounds. I think I still have 5-8 boxes left and they run perfectly in almost all of my .22 handguns. I bought 30 packs a year ago....

I am curious to see if I will have problems with the newer ones, but have no desire to fork over $16 a box for the 550 count maroon/ black bulk packs.

Interesting. I have been through approximately 1500 rounds of the Federal 550 stuff and had no ammunition failures in my S&W M&P 15-22. However, I have had one of the bulk Remington rounds KB on me as have several other folks with the same platform.

Monday the Fed 550 rnd bulk packs (brown box) cost $15.47 at Wally World in Lexington. Today (Wednesday) they cost $19.97. Rem 550 rnd Golden Bullets cost $19.97 also.500 rnd bricks of Fed brown box cost $14.50 so I bought 3 of them. Guy behind me bought the remaining 4 bricks.Prices are going up. Which is worse:No ammo at any price or ammo too expensive to buy?
